    Motor swap, back and forth.

Different year Mercs use different electrical controls. The control cables usually work for all Mercs.

    Mercury 650 70’s outboard

You can replace the poppit and see if that fixes it. Be real careful removing the screws that hold the exhaust cover. They can break. A freshwater motor gives you a chance to pull the bolts with little breakage, but try to loosen them with a hand impact driver. If it were me, I would run...

    2000 70hp Evinrude 4 stroke. Thoughts

Run it on a flusher or in a barrel and see what makes noise. Noises are usually real bad. Maybe the noise is in the gearcase? That would be cheaper to fix than the powerhead.

    Mercury 650 70’s outboard

Not sure exactly what part is leaking. Likely the exhaust cover. They pit on the inside until one of the pits leaks. If so, it may leak in other places eventually. However, at this time, the motor only has one leak and it is a million years old. Let her dry and put a dab of silicone on it...

    2000 70hp Evinrude 4 stroke. Thoughts

OK, so you had the motor trimmed to the max. Generally, you can run with the engine trimmed to the max, and if the prop doesn't blow out, it is fine. Unless the motor is mounted too high on the transom, she should cool fine, even at max trim. It makes sense to check the motor for overheat...

    4.5 mercury 2 stroke

You would also need a slow or better yet, no current. I have seen sailboats under power fail to get into a creek, when the tide was going out. The current overpowered the kicker.

    Interlux Brightside

Interesting question. Brightside is pretty good and hard w/o a specific hardener.

    Mercury Tilt and Trim units

You would need to find a flush bushing that fits the release valve. Then you would drill and tap for the OD of the flush bushing. I have no idea if you have the material to drill and the space to install the flush bushing.

    Motor swap, back and forth.

Steering swaps pretty easily between motor makes. The electricals and control cables do not. For those the same brand motor is good.

    Merc 3.0 Overheating

Compression can leak into the cooling passages, causing overheat. You can run it and check for pressure in cooling system. Not sure offhand how to do that, though.

    Mercury Tilt and Trim units

Can you drill the manual release hole oversize and tap for a flush bushing?

    Merc 3.0 Overheating

Check your compression. A leaking head gasket can also cause overheat. Was the boat always used in freshwater? Exhast manifolds in salt water only last 10 years at most.

    Garboard drain assembly

A lot of garboard drains do not have tubes. Seal the transom wood with epoxy or polyester resin. Seal the garboard fitting with silicone.

    Trim wiring.. 5 wire tt

Gee, five wires: Red is power into the PTT system, Green is down, Blue is up, Black is usually ground. So that leaves 1 wire. How is the harness routed.

So you are asking if someone modified your wiring? That is a tough ask.

Fuel setup two outboards, one tank.

Guy, That probably works, in theory. to go further, I would expect that to work. Let's see if it does... Maybe we are chasing wild geese.

    4 stroke

Some of those small motors have a fuel shut off valve. I recommend you keep is closed whenever the motor is unused. Leaving the valve open, with the fuel tank above the carb, allows the carb to be kept full of fuel, and as the gasoline evaporates, varnish and other stuff can build up clogging it.

    Replace mount

Newer motors of your HP (late 80s or newer) use four 1/2" transom bolts. Those are more than strong enough to keep the motor bolted to the transom, even under crash conditions. The "lip" on the transom bracket may (may) be used to help hold the motor to the transom, until the transom mounting...

Fuel setup two outboards, one tank.

Gee, I can see a scenerio where you are running on the kicker for several hours. During that time the gas in the carbs of the big motor evaporates, lowering the float and exposing the inlet needle to the air in the carb bowl. Carb bowls are vented, which allows the kicker to suck air. Now in...

    Trim wiring.. 5 wire tt

You have one of the newer designed PTT units, with two trim rams and one tilt ram. When your motor is down, and you run the PTT unit in the up direction, the twin trim rams move the motor, which can be under full power. After those trim rams are fully extended, if you continue to operate the...
