    Why is my carb oxidizing????

Aren't carb bodies aluminum? Everyone I ever had was. The only time I have seen that much corrosion on aluminum was from the dry chemical of a fire extinguisher. I doubt even salt water alone would corrode it that much.

Theoretical question about yellow stator wires

Stators usually do not blow the rectifier. Loose connections do. Make sure the + and - wires are solidly connected and make good contact. If the bullet connectors look suspect, replace them.

    Fuel pickup problem...

Might be simpler to replace the fuel tank. It sounds like yours is steel. Those have not been used since the 70's

Fitting to convert 2" fuel tank screw cap to 2" filler hose?

That 12 Gal tank is likely not rated to be installed inside a compartment. It would need a permanent vent fitting to a thru-hull vent. Has it got one?

    Why is my carb oxidizing????

Actually it looks like someone stole your carb and replaced it with a carb that was sitting out in the weather for 2 decades. Even leaving the carb outside for a year wouldn't do that. It has to be electrical. Some carbs have electric choke components. Do you have that feature?

Theoretical question about yellow stator wires

Rectifiers either blow or they don't. They can easily be checked with an analog ohmmeter. Some digital ohmmeters have a way to use them to check rectifiers, but you should look that procedure up, if you don't know it. Rectifiers used in OB charging systems are 4 diode bridges. With a meter...

    Anchor line/rode size

Clearly you have never heard of the old salt who kept reminding everyone that the water between the piers is called the "dock". He was correct, but very lonely.

Prepping aluminum boat for salt water slip

Some (if not all) aluminum safe antifouling paint require a serious primer to insulate the A-F paint from the hull. Not sure your Rustolium is up to it. Even 1 part marine polyurethane paint will peel on a boat hull kept in the water.

    Launching/retrieving with FWD

If the ramp is paved and free of slippery stuff, you should be good. Sand/weeds/gravel on the ramp will make it a challenge. Obviously, if she starts to slip, ease off on the gas a bit, but keep going. stopping in the middle is the worst thing you can do.

What tools are "must haves" on the boat in your tool bag while keeping it light as possible ?

What kind of boat and what kind of power? For my I/O I carried some belts, tools to change them and the usual electrical tape, spare fuses, wire, fuel filter and the simple hand tools. Spare prop and wrench are good as well. With a modern OB, you can likely get away with less as they are more...

Floatation Foam Removal Without Pulling the Cap on a 1984 Glasstream Hydrabass 1700

Bass boats do not usually have very much foam in them. Therefore I doub't you will see a list or swamp-type behavior. When bass boats fill with water, the stern with it's heavy engine, usually sinks and the bow floats. The issue you face is that the wet foam will rot out the stringers and...

What is Transom Height for 2006 Bayliner 185 Boat

Generally speaking that transom would be 25" or XL, however, that is based upon the size and age of the boat, and trends of the OEMs. You had best measure it. Older boats of that length usually have a 20" or Long transom.

    Launching/retrieving with FWD

Did I miss something? You want to tow 3000# with a vehicle that can tow 3500#? That works in my opinion. Now lets talk about sufficient traction on the ramp.....

    Anchor line/rode size

1/4 line is too light. it will chafe and weaken easily. Sand always gets into anchor line weave, and with thin line like that it will weaken quickly. Also, if the anchor gets hung up, you will be able to snap that thin line, loosing the anchor. 3/8" line is minimum. One day I snagged a...

    Boat Canopy Question

Well, I used it to repair my Sunbrella Bimini top. It stuck fine...... Finally, after some years a 50MPH windstorm destroyed the sunbrella bimini top, but the iron on patches survived, when the rest of the bimini top was shredded by the wind.

My 1974 Mercury 150hp Hard Starting Issues

That motor runs on a 50::1 gasoline to oil mixture. Mix 1 pint of TCW-III two cycle oil to 6 Gallons of gasoline. Gee, those motors take a few extra seconds to start when cold. They start instantly after the initial start. Why do you want to change the choke to a primer? The choke worked...

Mercury 90 2 Stroke fouling one plug after some use, stalls when accelerating

What cylinder powers the fuel pump? If the fuel pump leaks fuel into the crankcase, is can foul a cylinder. Other than that, make sure the carb floats are set to spec, and the inlet needles and seats are good. Did you replace the floats, inlet needles and seats? Did you install and tighten...

1999 75HP Force/Mercury Odd Lower Unit Oil Residue

Was it ever run, after the gear oil was replaced? if not, it is possible that you have two colors of gear oil, residual gear oil from the last draining, and the new stuff. Just a guess.

My 1974 Mercury 150hp Hard Starting Issues

Do the two choke plates close? You can adjust the plastic gratings a bit to help them seal the carb throats better. Not too tight so they bind however. Make sure the battery cables are clean, as the faster the starter spins, the better choking action. On that engine, pump primer hard, cold...
