    You certainly can take the distributor out and prime it. I would just run it on the starter to get oil to the rockers and then run it before putting it in to the boat. Its pretty easy to run on the ground and check everything out before you drop it in.

    After refill my alpha drive always drops level in lube bottle after first run. I top it off and then don't loose any more the rest of the season. As others have advised keep a bottle in the boat and watch the level, if it keeps dropping would take it back to person who did drive work.

    First thought would be a balance issue from mix and match parts as Scott outlines. Did you use the whole truck engine or pull the crank and swap that into the VP engine? Are the blocks the same casting number? The loctite will take time to fully cure especially if outside in colder weather...

    You don't have to set dwell anymore. Did you use a petronix or other conversion kit or replace the whole distributor with a delco EST? if you used a points replacement kit, timing is set the same. if you used a delco est kit you need to put it in base mode first to set timing
