    Answer this question,-----Does your motor have the 79 model 6 HP pump installed , yes , no or no idea ?-----There is a special gasket ( 79 style pump ) and it goes between the pump housing and the plate !-----Time to stop and regroup I say.-----Fixing these simple pumps takes about 10 minutes !

    You would need a 5" longer exhaust housing.---Longer driveshaft.----Longer shift rod.---Longer water tube.---Plus lots of time for the work.--Cheaper to buy a used long shaft parts motor I say.----This long shaft / short shaft thing is often misunderstood.

    ???-----The lower unit casting is the same between a long and short shaft.-----You would change the driveshaft and shift rod.-----The exhaust housing is 5" longer on a long shaft motor !

    If it shifts to FORWARD with a DOWN motion of the shift rod it is a hydro-mechanical shift.-----If the lower unit is original it has the Hydro-mechanical shift lower unit.-----Uses oil pressure to shift smoothly and easily.-----Yes HI-VIS oil is correct.

    You can leave gearcase empty.----Get the right oil when you pick up the new water pump parts.----Compression test can be done on a cold engine.----Numbers are even so a good sign.-----Check for spark.----Motor must crank fast to check for spark.----If motor was stored with fuel in carburetors...

    Look for -----Bay manufacturing.-------They offer kits for converting short to long shaft.

    Make sure there are drain holes.-----Perhaps a garden hose fitting for filling / flushing the tubes.---Size the drain holes so that tubing fills faster than it drains.-----A few holes for air circulation help to dry inside of tubes.-----Or get a trailer with channels.-----Never done any...

    Good eye.----I missed that 0.020 on that one piston.------I also stated that it needs 4 new pistons.----Well maybe 3 after inspection of all the bits.

    So it has the updated kit as found on a 79 model 6 HP ?----Hard / nearly impossible to assemble one of those pumps so it would not work.----Intake screen behind propeller clear.

    No idea where the interested party is planning on boating.-----I am just stating that bowriders may not be suitable in certain conditions.----When there are too many folks up front.-----I would never want one.
