    Well----You seem to know your stuff.----That motor would only have a tell tale hose.----It does NOT have 2 water hoses outside the block !

    That impeller is GARBAGE needs a new one.----Measure the shaft size to get the right one.----Yes you need that----" some kind of key "---- to drive / spin the impeller !

    Simply check spark.----My bet is that it is running on just 1 cylinder.----And don't wind it up in neutral.----Some will argue , but it is bad for the motor.

    Maybe a reed valve stuck open.----Or bottom crankshaft seal is bad ?----Any chance critters built a nest in the exhaust housing ?----They all need a home too.

    Just 2 nuts to remove the lower unit.-----Could be a bad impeller( needs new one every 2 or 3 years ) and or plastic washer at top of water tube melted.

    That hose from the airbox to the block is NOT the recirculation hose.----The recirculation passage way is not visible without removing the intake manifold.

    Fuel problems are gradual in nature.----Ignition missing is more an instant change in engine power / RPM.

    Sorry I can not look over your shoulder but some simple trouble shooting needs to be done.---What fuel pump are you using ?----All throttle plates going full open ?---Timer base moving for proper spark advance?----This motor's lack of performance should be easy to figure out.

    What is your compression now ?----Spark on all 4 leads that jumps a gap of 3/8" or more ?----Flywheel key sheared ?----Orifice plugs in carburetor bowls confirmed clean ?----The correct prop for your boat ?

    Simple fact for you.----The motor respond to CHOKE.------That clearly indicates that you need to revisit carburetor work.----Verify that the high speed jet ( orifice plug ) that is INSIDE the carburetor bowl is clean.
