The admiral will be a bit angry with me when she gets home to find the old fart took her old washing machine out to the curb by himself. It went belly up last night and I told her it wasn't worth repairing. The new one gets delivered in the morning.
Meanwhile, I'm finally almost done with the...
I'm assuming you are trying to not remove the sidewall carpet? That will definitely be a challenge getting the vinyl to look right. Mine was a total gut and rebuild, so I wrapped the Nautolex up the sidewalls then installed marine carpet over the seams...
Thought the story was very interesting. Too bad the batteries failed (or worse)

Been working on a new rod for the admiral with a 5 color chevron.
Finally got a decent test tiger wrap on my test blank, so will be incorporating that into the split grip section.

Think I did ok. Compression readings were 133, 136, 133 and 130. T&T works perfectly and holds. Oil injection has been removed. It's a '92 from the S/N. Made a deal on the 40 hp and a mid '80's 35 hp complete with all controls and a spare new prop for the 35 all for $800. It's going to be...
Glad now I didn't get to finish mounting the controls and steering setup for the old '75 Johnson. Just got back from picking up a great running '92 Mercury 40 with T&T (and an '85 35hp). Got a great deal on the pair. Really wanted power tilt, so now I'm set. Just need to sell off a few of my...
Thanks guys, but not all my wrap tests have been successful. I still can't get a proper tiger wrap to take after numerous tries. The pictures of these actually look better than they do in person :(
I did manage to complete a chevron though for one of the rods I'm gifting.
I've always used OMC outboards and rebuilt my '75 Johnson 40 last Winter. Now that my boat is almost done (waiting for Spring thaw to finish) I keep wishing I had power tilt/trim.
An early 90's Mercury 40 with the right shaft length came up for sale recently for $750 with T/T and controls...
I use a 5 roller stand on the input side and this on the exit. - Bought it 25 years ago, so no idea where to find them anymore. I align everything with a 6ft level before I start.
Never had a snipe issue.
The unnerving part - cutting the ends and hope nothing goes wrong with the termination wrap.
.... and both ends terminated. One with the take off guide and the other with the hook keeper.
After doing this, I know why they suggest you do your first few wraps with a chevron pattern - sure...
Laid another 24 threads last night. After a few hours my eyes feel like they're going to pop out, but getting close to the finish now. Wish I'd picked a darker gray though, this one almost looks white.
I wanted to try a base wrap on the 2nd rod and had designed a diamond pattern wrap last Winter. This is the progression so far with the first 28 threads - roughly 1/3 of the way so far. Have to finish packing the last 8 before I can continue.
The jury is still out on whether or not I like the Prowrap Fusion variegated thread I'm using for the smaller rod. I've wrapped a lot over the years, but this was the first time using thread this slippery. The first 2 wraps unraveled while using the burnishing tool, so had to start over and be...
I did manage to clean up my workshop over the weekend so I'll be able to wrap the 2 new rods on the bench.
Got a jump start today, but my batch of epoxy setup before I could get the seat installed on the second rod. :mad-new:
