    normally if the pump was bad simple hand pumping fuel should refill it and carb and prove the pump is bad...have you tried ?

    I have use ethanol fuel all my boating life since sold & currently in my 75HP ETEC never had any problems and the boat is stored 6 months fully fueled with 87 octane + fuel saver cycled in before storage. don't tilt up to much if not needed and see what happens.

    assuming you have done a good carb cleaning and ignition is ok check (open) venting on the tank and small fuel pump screen and try hand pumping the fuel to the fuel pump if it clears the problem ( it stays running) the fuel pump may need a new diaphragm or replacement altogether...

    1960s use 50/1 oil won't hurt it and go 25/1 but spark plugs may get plugged up with carbon after a while. if it is grandpa's motor may as well pull the FW and check coils for cracks , change condensers and clean-up the points change impeller and GC oil set points at the high...

    the procedure to drop the GC on older CD will show you the area of concern. not a big deal to lift the PH but if you damage the base gasket a new one ...and the correct one will be needed ( patterns differ!!)
