    unfortunately the EMM can not see the mechanical aspects of the Injectors. it can only see OPEN if the current does not pass (open injector code). Injectors use 55 VDC from the main buss and are pulsed with a ground from the EMM . The EMM may be faulty (not pulsing the injector) . one...

    they are hard to break unless dropped.... if you do not want to mess with it remove the filter inside and install an external one on the incoming fuel line. . kwick and easy to replace :) since the inbound fuel will be pressurized by the tank check if any restrictions regarding PSI...

    I agagree they are not exactly 1985 /140s .... yet I suspect they would have lots of similarities and you can probably hook up most of the wiring.

    you can buy a lot of oil for the costs of a shop job to reaseal the GC . that is if you don't do it yourself as it is. a midseason change after letting the water settle down near the bottom you can just top it off after draining the few drops of water. Or just refill 100% buy quality...

    btw to reinstall the mag plate is a touch tricky... install the felt and retainer clip under the coil ... add one drop or 2 of oil then step1-... open up the point rub blocks to slide the mag plate down on the crankshaft . step 2 - the 4 bolt holes are symetrically distributed...

    What type of hydraulic fluid to use in '98 50hp Johnson? Replace relays too while I'm at it?

    Most of my tuff bolts-screws etc..... have come out easy using a 1/4 impact driver ...starting at the lowest setting. adapters are available to mount 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 inch sockets . Dollar store adapters for $4 CDN a kit have proven very reliable for home (non-commercial) application...

    your plug wire (being metal) is likely still good unless it is cracked and/or ... broken in a bend somewhere . Usually the poor connection is at either tip connnection point and snipping 1/4 to 3/8 will restore some good non-oxydized surfaces for the coil's HV pin and you can remove...

    both short primaries wires will give you 1 or less ohms either one measured with the HV pin should give you near identical readings ( 3-8 kohms approx.) see TEST NEW COILS section.....in this link to servicing similar magneto on a 3hp...

    see pics where you "screw in" the HV plug wire and info from the JOhnson service manual on oldies from late 40s to late 60'S .... same old magnetos like your's
