    bottom painting

beware, marinas sometimes forget to prime the hull. Then the paint falls off real easy. They never forget to charge for priming, though.

    Need bottom paint removal help

If you have it soda blasted, it will be a matte finish, but intact gelcoat. You may be able to shine it up. A 36 grit grinder will strip it down to the gelcoat, but it will rough up and likely remove some of the surface of the gel coat. it will not take long as the antifouling paint is real...

Bottom Painting for a Trailered Boat

Interlux Brightside is a one part polyurethane paint suitable for the bottom of a trailered boat. You would need to leave it in the water for a few days before it would fail. Interlux Perfection is a 2 part polyurethane paint, suitable for below the waterline. Not sure where you get your...

    Miss marked prop?

Clearly those are different style props. Not sure what else I can say. The total surface of the prop blades looks close, but the rake of the new prop seems a lot greater. Obviously the pitch of the new prop looks to be greater. Is it possible the original prop is not marked correctly or...

1994 OceanPro 150 lost reverse, sort of

Take a look at where the shift lever goes thru the gearcase surface. Many of those have a shift cover that will swell and grab the shift rod. It makes getting into reverse very hard. The cure is a new shift cover.

A starter can be aftermarket, but must be a marine starter, which are protected from open sparks. What is brand of MerCruiser motor? Mercury itself or marinized auto engine like Chevy?

    Points

a web site like crowleymarine will have the part number. I would expect the points would be available at a lot of places. A search on the part number should turn up some choices.

    Miss marked prop?

Put the props side by side on the bench. Use a ruler to measure the blades from the bench fore and aft. You should be able to see a difference in the "twist" of the blade. Also measure diameter, as that affects performance. Make sure the hub is the same size.

    Help needed shift shaft problem

You will need the wrench to get it into neutral. Not too much pressure on the wrench, as you are simply compressing a spring, and pushing the dog on the prop shaft about 3/4"

    Alpha 1 u joint replacement

You should post this in the MerCruiser forum. That is a common repair.

    rewiring a power trim tilt

The problem is that relays supply both ground and power to the PTT motor. At rest the relays provide ground to the PTT motor. when energized, they provide +12VDC to the PTT motor. Your 3 wire motor has a center winding ground. With the relays, you are shorting half your motor's windings to...

Finally got my boat to full speed

I like the Turning Point Hustlers in 3 and 4 blade. BTW - I had an 18 footer w/ a 4.3LX 205HP. I saw speed very like yours, maybe a couple of MPH more. Don't overrev that motor. See what your specs are and stick to max RPM limits.

    Saltwater fishing boat help?!

Try for a 21 footer or larger. 17-19 foot is real marginal for that far offshore. We ran into 8 foot waves 15 mi off, on a nice day. Luckily I was in a 35 footer.

    Saltwater fishing boat help?!

IMO CC boats are a bad choice for the ocean. You have no protection from sun, spray or wind. A DC or Bowrider with a walk thru windshield is much better. CC boats are real popular, likely the most popular boat style, but I find them wet, cold and windy.

    Beware

In general, 20+ year old boats can start to have structural problems. It is not unusual. Motors can have issues after less time than that. People who do not want to work on boats should not buy older boats. The good news is that there are lots of Utube videos on how to repair a rotted...

Clicking while turning CW is normal for forward. Use a crescent wrench and turn the shift shaft firmly CCW until it clicks into neutral. Set motor to neutral and reinstall gearcase.

    SHALLOW WATER

There are outboard motors with jet drive. You may want that if bay is real shallow in a lot of places. Outboard jet drives are only about 70% as efficient as prop outboards.
