    If it is a 2 piece driveshaft it might just be you need to swap out the upper driveshaft.---No shimming required.

    Do not use RTV any where on a fuel system !!---------Clean carburetors / inspect float valves.------Install a seal kit for the lower unit.----Much cheaper than gears and shafts.

    I guess I need to repeat-----Evinrude lower units will work on your big Johnson looper.----Get on some websites and compare part numbers.-----Or call a retailer that knows what fits.

    You got the wrong lower unit from a different series of motors..-----A 1992 140 Johnson and a 1992 140 Evinrude have exactly the same lower unit.

    There are different opinions out there.------A rebuilt 1983 V-4 is a very good motor.-----You have to know how to start them.-----Uses more fuel than a new 4 stroke.-----Does not require $100/hr shop support.

    Pinch off the 2 little lines.----Or carefully remove those 2 little lines when motor is running.------No fuel should come out of the 2 small nipples.
