    Why did you take the cover off ?----You are right the motor is 40 years old.----Likely that you are overthinking here.

    # 6 should just pry out with a couple of hefty screwdrivers.-----Pinion gear has to be removed first.----Shift mechanism must be removed before propshaft can come out.

    The cowling latch was changed in 97.----That is a 93 to 96 model.

    Yes the decals in the video are for a 2000 model as clearly indicated.

    It plugs into a wire that goes to the motor wiring.----Should be easy to figure out if read all the posts in this thread.-----You must be kidding if you are willing to buy new parts for that kind of money.

    This should be easy to figure out.----But for some it appears to all be " black magic " and simple trouble shooting is going out of favor I think.

    He says that flappers were replaced.-----The manual pump on the tank does NOT pressurize the tank.----It pumps fuel only.

    I doubt a thief would go through the effort to do a factory paint job.----I can not see the back of the cover.----But I am pretty sure it is NOT a 93 model at all !!!!

    Agreed---Post #1 seems to indicate it has a pressure tank.-----Is tank cap closed with a good gasket ?----If motor runs it must be producing crankcase pressure for the tank.-----There is a blockage or leak somewhere.----Checked fuel filter and strainer inside the tank ?----The pump on the tank...

    Granny shifting ( easing into gear ) is bad for a gearcase.-----So shift with a quick motion.----Perhaps adjust shift cable.---I do not think you have to replace this unit !!

    The nut on the pinion gear needs to come off to take shaft out.----I suspect major damage to lower driveshaft and thrust bearing,
