With drive removed, mark the drive shaft and one of the prop shafts. Rotate drive shaft 10 times and count the prop, then divide by 10
Its rotated 10 times to make sire its not an even ratio like 2.0
Have never seen a SB (even stroked) put out more "low end" torque then a BB. Pretty sure your going to like the 8.2 in the 28 footer (5500 lbs).
That said, hope there is no problems with the CATs
One which may be an issue is the tachometer, and that's only if the gauge doesn't have a setting for the number of cylinders. Only other issue I can think of which may be an issue is the sensor size (if there is enough room to install)
Your new motor needs a 10 pin harness connector which has 9 wires in it. Pick up a 10 pin pig tail, cut the connector off yours

A 1976 used an ampmeter and not a voltmeter. Suggest wiring using current configurations
