Mercruiser 3.0 135hp. Crank and rods

With compression that high there is liquid in the cylinder. Head is warped so gasket is not sealing or cylinder is cracked and water is leaking in. When the motor diesels, that's when motor runs in reverse just before it dies and sucks in water. The water can bend rods and break things The...

Mercruiser 3.0 135hp. Crank and rods

The crank and rods are NLA, and I would not try to put an old crank/rods in a newer block Unless you know what caused the second set of bearings to get eaten, I would look for the cause first before going further Do you know?

    Idle speed, Mercruiser 2.8 165hp D-tronic

With the Racor having a lot of crud, the first thing I would do is replace the secondary filter https://www.mercruiserparts.com/bam/subassembly/31205/2673/170

    Idle speed, Mercruiser 2.8 165hp D-tronic

The ECM adjust to keep idle within spec, but can only adjust so far. If one or more injectors are not getting the correct amount of fuel then there may not be enough room for the ECM to adjust. There should be a code thrown and the MIL light would be illuminated. You didn't mention the light...

    Idle speed, Mercruiser 2.8 165hp D-tronic

I would start with the basics. Air cleaner Fuel filter (is it clean and full, if not full check antisiphon valve) Exhaust system (manifold, turbo, pipe) I would lean toward the fuel system since this just happened and was doing fine. If a piece of crud got into one of the injectors it would...

Turn the key to start and hold, then pull the shifter back n forth a bit to see if it will start to crank. If it does its the neutral switch If it doesn't connect voltmeter probe to Yellow/Red wire on the key switch and turn to start, should see 12V. If 12V is found then put probe on the...

    Key switch / Ignition issue

Power goes to the key switch on the red/purple wire, which also has a 20 fuse. The fuse is probably a inline type. It will be behind the helm. Follow the wire to find it

    Thermostat Housing Check Balls

Could check the circulating water pump to see if the vanes inside the pump have come loose from the shaft. Normally when this happens the motor just over heats. If a head gasket was the issue, then the heat/water still comes together in the thermostat housing and splits almost even.

    Thermostat Housing Check Balls

haven't drained a V6 in a long time and when I do my BB there is always some water the comes out both sides, just not as much on the second side. I think your good, but to verify, put Port plug back in and then pour water into the thermostat housing and see if water comes out the starboard side

    Starter issues

Remove the battery cable ends from the starter and the negative on the engine block. They should be clean and shinny, and bend the ends to see if there is any corrosion under the jacket. If all that is good, then agree with gm280

Where did you find this Rick. The install manual list transom angles can be 10 to 16 degrees and that angle is used to determine X dimension. Where not talking X dimension here, but if the transom can be at a different angle, then so can the plate

1996 Volvo Penta 7.4 will not stay running

New pump Put a voltmeter on the pump hot side and see if you get 12V to it while cranking? Now see if 12V stays there once the key is released and motor is running? If both are true and it still dies its either fuel restriction or an electrical issue
