    Pretty sure the top cover is glued on and needs to be there, otherwise it leaks. It can be replaced by making a Tee fitting. Member @Bt Doctur has made them from copper fittings. If your going to stay at idle maybe tape it on https://www.mercruiserparts.com/bam/subassembly/31748/8093/250

    Ran compression test on the 140 and 3 cylinders are 110 psi and 1 is 105 Tried to do the 120 but no starter, so I'll pull one off the 105

    When in doubt use the OEM gear lube. Not a Yam guy, just my thoughts Google yamaha gear lube and it comes back as SAE90 same as the rest...
