    Not a VP guy but do know your motor is not timed using a timing light. You have the HVS distributor and the motor is brought around to TDC on number one. Then the distributor is installed as in the pic below. There is no further adjustment unless its not running very well

    The wire is hot when the key is ON, but should not be when the key is OFF. Power comes from the purple wire going to the alarm. The alarm ground side is the Tan/Blue and goes to lube, temp and oil.
