    The one I found for a Gen 2 is a 7/6 - 14 x 1 3/4 long. It does show a hex head but my guess is a smaller head size to fit in the hole. Using an Allen head would be better it most cases. Here is the part number

    Power comes in on the Red/Purple and when key is turned to ON or RUN, power is applied to the I terminal and all Purple wires should go hot (12V). When key is turned to Start the Yellow/Red wire goes hot to crank engine

    If your hearing no noticeable difference between either side then the diverters are working equally. There is an adjustment that can be made but is done with the diverters removed. With engine running and the diverters on, grab them and see it you can move them any by hand

    IMO you should use the 27-41812 gasket to seal off the passage. Your cooling system needs to keep that sealed off to keep your block full. Your system is the one on the left pic below. Now if you want to upgrade and go for newer style we could work on that
