    What's the difference between condensers?

I'm seeing a huge price difference in condensors. For example, for the Volvo AQ130 4 cyl engine, Volvo lists 2 condensors, depending on the distributor. List prices are $27.25 ( PN 24170) and $49.12 (PN 834545) respectively. Both models of distributor use the same coil. I can find both on ebay...

1973 volvo penta 270 glastron v174 leaking missing winter plug??

Re: 1973 volvo penta 270 glastron v174 leaking missing winter plug?? That is the block drain connection and should be threaded. A petcock with an extension screws right in. The oil cooler drain petcock is just below that on the brass oil cooler outlet bell.

    help with new boat

Re: help with new boat This is what the flywheel cover looks like that's in good shape: This should give you an idea what to expect when you remove the shaft and old bearing. If you've got something that looks like either one of these, you have bigger problems and will need to pull...

Mothers Day sale at Harbor Freight!!!

EDIT: Advertizing not allowed. Oh yea, I can see it now: "Honey, how about instead of taking you to dinner for Mothers Day, we go to Harbor Freight for the big sale?". Sounds suicidal to me:D

    Drill Baby Drill!! Or Not?

Installing a new transponder but not sure about plugging the old cable hole in the transom and drilling a new one or just using the existing hole. The transducer was mounted to the right of the prop but I have a left hand rotation prop. Because it's on the right, fishfinder shows telephone poles...

    Piston condition?

There are a few blemishes on these pistons and wondering if they are OK to use. Both have these small amounts of what looks like little bubbles from displaced material on the side of the piston above the upper ring groove. You can feel it with a fingernail on one of them but not on the other...

    Cylinder deglazing necessary?

I have a spare engine that I'm cleaning up and then going to put away for later. The cylinder walls look to be in exceptional shape. There is no ridge whatsoever and the crossthatch marks are still visible. How do you determine if deglazing is necessary?

    Solex Downdraft Carburetor Help!!!!

Re: Solex Downdraft Carburetor Help!!!! This it? From the chamber behind the accel pump? I've got one if you want it but no crush washer. Might want to try NAPA for a washer but be prepared to buy a gasket kit if you can't find one there. Shoot me an IM if this is what you need.

    Volvo Penta AQ170 overheats

Re: Volvo Penta AQ170 overheats ANY air leaks on the suction side will reduce the ability to get good flow to the engine. Like the Captain said, that water neck fitting is a common bad actor. It's best to check all the lines to look for cracked, hoses or anything that can allow air to enter on...

AQ130/280 drive unit drops suddenly on its down travel

Re: AQ130/280 drive unit drops suddenly on its down travel Here's what the lock mechanism looks like: Another theory: Those nuts on the side (just above the springs in the picture) are supposed to be backed off a flat so the weight of the outdrive will allow the mechanism to move down...

Anyone seeing fallout from the epsilon email data theft?

As a frequent traveler, I have just about all of the hotel, airline, and car rental cards so have my email address spread out all over the place. As a result, I'm receiving quite a few emails about the theft of data. Some of my co-workers on the east coast are also receiving an increased number...

Crack in head - repairable or trash?

Was lapping the valves and found this: Pretty sure it's a piece of scrap iron now but thought I'd ask. Crack is through the exhaust valve seat and across the head. The engine is a VP AQ130C from 1972 so was built when leaded gas was the norm and premium was widely used. Any hope at all for...

3 out of 4 bad exhaust valves?

Got a good price on a spare AQ130 so took the plunge. Set it up on the engine stand and found the compression at 185, 85, 120, & 130. Mainfolds are removed and I had been spraying fogging oil in through the plug holes and also on top of the valves the last couple of days so it was well lubed up...

Volvo Penta 280 long or short shaft?

Re: Volvo Penta 280 long or short shaft? I'm not sure, but it looks like the hub from a broken linecutter is still on the shaft in your picture. If it is, might be a better measurement if it's removed. Here's the picture of a long shaft:

Volvo Penta 280 long or short shaft?

Re: Volvo Penta 280 long or short shaft? Sorry I wasn't clear. The long hub prop won't fit on the short shaft. The pictures show the long hub prop on the short shaft and I had to exchange it for the short hub prop. The cone should be the same. The difference in those is that some of the shafts...

Volvo Penta 280 long or short shaft?

Re: Volvo Penta 280 long or short shaft? Here's a picture of the short shaft measurements: Here's what a long hub prop looks like on a short shaft: If you have a long shaft, the prop doesn't matter since you use the spacers. The manual isn't completely clear so you ned to search prop...

Outlook will only send to 4 recipients?

All of a sudden, my Outlook email is limited to 4 recipients for a message. Her's the message I receive: This message wasn't delivered to anyone because there are too many recipients. The limit is 4. This message has 10 recipients. I can, however, send to groups with more recipients. Our IT guy...

Removing a flywheel from an AQ125...

Re: Removing a flywheel from an AQ125... That thin plate is the flywheel damper and yes, it comes off first. Once it's off, you'll see the flywheel bolts.

    Is business technology moving backward?

maybe it's just me but I'm having more and more reliability issues with technology. I live in Oregon and the main office for the company is on the east coast. It seems it's harder and harder to stay in communication. Just a few examples: We switched to Comcast as a phone service provider. Now...
