    Need a good boat cover!

Re: Need a good boat cover! The frame just sits in place using the spring tension of the PVC pipe. Use at least 1" so it doesn't take a set. Here are some closeups to show how I used the "t" fittings: $10-15 in PCV pipe and fittings plus a $29 tarp from Harbor Freight. It's lasted two...

    Need a good boat cover!

Re: Need a good boat cover! Here's what I use: Notice that the ends aren't sealed. That works great for allowing air flow and keeping everything dry. Sits that way all winter with no mold or dampness inside at all.

    Wow! That much?

Re: Wow! That much? This is a different boat, aluminum vs stainless, and possibly a different configuration that you were looking for but still a comparison. Boat is an 18' runabout with closed bow. Cost was $1,100 two years ago:

My shaft wobbles - how do I measure it?

Outdrive is a Volvo 280. The prop seemed to wobble with a new prop but not as bad as the older one. Wondering if it's the prop or the shaft itself. There is a noise in the lower end when I turn the shaft by hand. No grinding or scraping noise but not the smooth sound you would expect. There is...

    Cleaning mud off the boat

I can't get to the boat right now since it's being inspected but would like to clean it off when I get it back. Any suggestions? http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/41594536/ns/world_news-americas

Second bilge pump - separate hole in transom?

Thinking of installing a second bilge puimp in my 18' runabout with an I/O. Can I put in a 'Y' at the transom with a check valve so one pump doesn't backfeed into the other or go with separate discharge openings?

Transom hole repair - which method?

I received a new fishfinder/GPS for Christmas and want to remove all the old stuff as well as mount the new one correctly on the left hand side (left hand prop rotation). Here are the pictures of the transom as it is now: Will be removing the transducer and paddlewheel and filling the...

Just bought Volvo Penta AQ130/270 Outdrive on a Ranger Riverboat 17ft

Re: Just bought Volvo Penta AQ130/270 Outdrive on a Ranger Riverboat 17ft If you want to bypass the outdrive for now, here's a way to check the strainer and the pump itself to see if it's putting out pressure: The danger to this is that you're not testing the full system and you MUST...

Looking for the best Boat Cover Support System!

Re: Looking for the best Boat Cover Support System! The PCV pipe method is pretty simple and the bows side to side prevent water from pooling. The ends not being completely sealed allows air movement so there is little or no mildew. It only takes about 5 minutes to put on so it's really simple...

Birds falling from the sky in Arkansas?

It's still in the news with no explanation for the birds or for the dead fish. A representative from the fish & wildlife department was just on the news and says the birds shows signs of blunt force trama while in the air! It was obviously a Romulan space vessel with a cloaking device! Should...

What's with the non-iboats advertising on the forum?

I'm seeing ads from companies other than iboats that pop up or are in the banner at the top of the site. Attwood and Chevrolet are the two that come to mind but there are others as well. So what's up with that?

    Shelf life of rubber components

Was planning on picking up some extra parts like raw water pump impeller, bellows, and some o-rings to have on hand. With the option of aftermarket vs older and unknown age, NOS OEM parts, was wondering which was the wiser choice. OEM is usually considered better quality but I'm concerned about...

    Mercury in volcanic lakes

I was surprised to find size and catch limits for specific lakes that are based on mercury levels. What was even more surprising is that the levels are naturally high at some of the volcanic lakes that still have some activity such as warm water vents. I thought they were just trying to cut...

    Alternative to DVD player?

For tradeshows, we have a PowerPoint slideshow with embedded videos that we play in a loop on a DVD player. Does anyone know of a alternative to the bulky DVD player? I don't want to leave my laptop on the table so that's not an alternative. There are some 19" LCD TV's that have a USB port but...

Anyone else having problems with the iboats store RMA process?

I ordered the wrong sized prop from iboats and am trying to return it. I filled out the online return forms Tuesday morning but haven't heard back from them with an RMA number. Are they usually this slow? I normally wouldn't care except that I'll be out of town for a few weeks and wanted to get...

    Jel coat repair gone wrong

Tried my hand at repairing a crack in the jelcoat and it isn't comong out right. It's an 8" crack with jagged edges from trying to dock at a river with strong current. I cleaned out the crack and widened the area to provide sufficient surface. Mixed the jel coat and catalyst and waited for the...

    Another boating accident

http://blog.oregonlive.com/nwheadlines/2010/06/woman_struck_on_diamond_lake_d.html I'm not trying to place blame in any way. There's not enough detail to tell what really happened but this is a good reminder of how much power we have at our disposal while operating a boat. If it gets out of...

    Term limits

Just heard this on CNN and thought others would enjoy it. Someone was commenting on the primaries and came up with this suggestion: Politicians should serve two terms. One in congress and the other in prison! I know we're supposed to keep politics out of the forum but this one seemed rather...
