Exhaust component inspection due to slight overheating

how old is boat and or risers. They are good for 4-7 years in salt water. I'd pull and examine water passage as best as I can. If they are old, replace. Sierra told me NO GASKET sealer. If an Alpha, how old is water pick up impeller?

Mercruiser alpha one gen 1 buzzer system

Most of the boats have light or audio alarms. I prefer BOTH. Some also have low OD reservoir fluid switches. If working correctly, they go to ground when tripped. My buzzer was under helm. Unfortunately. most Chevy v8 oil pressure switches are located near oil filter. Difficult to replace.... I...

    Trim Cylinder Length

I would suggest center pivot points, where big rubber washers fit. Measure when ram in fully retracted. You can measure bolt center to bolt center.

If u have motors out, check transom for rot. It is an old boat!

Best way to waterproof plywood transom

As fast.... Indeed, water will always find a crack or screw hole. I have replaced 2 I/O saltwater usage transoms. About 12 years life on a Proline and 30 on a Sea Ray. Rot seems to always start at the transom drain. These were trailered boats. My latest transom, I even coated inside of transom...

Best way to waterproof plywood transom

100% agree, but owner has to see the cost effectiveness for the long term. Galvanize bolts against aluminum doesn't work well either. You can defeat the problem by adding SS as a barrier, like SS washers.

Best way to waterproof plywood transom

How are you fastening ply to transom? A BUNCH of 1/4" x 20s????? I have had some success on regular ply using polyester (no wax) thinned 400% with acetone. The wood sucks up the mix. But wood was NOT transom. If it were me, I used pressure treated and let it totally dry and then prim and paint...

    Priming a Rebuild Engine

There is a tool u can buy at most autopart stores that fits into the distributor hole. If my old memory is correct, it has a slot on one end to fit oil pump and the other end is hex to fit /3/8 drill. Turn on drill. Be sure to remove one valve cover to make sure u see oil pumped up through the...

    Antifreez

great idea, unless he can recycle and use again. Everything is getting too expensive.

    Not good. Maybe

Based on what I see, motor will need a tear down. Too much oil in slush. Do compression test first to see if only heads/gasket need replacing. Convert a junk yard 350 to marine. A lot cheaper.

Replacing 5.0 oil pan, gasket, bolts

If you use in salt water, perhaps powder coated aftermarket? I'd prefer aluminum with heavy primed and painted.

    Slightly warm trailer hub

Most here have great responses, but don't laugh at this. Was both sides of trailer exposed equally to sunlight. Metal rims get HOT!

Rapid trailer jerk at higher speeds

Or tread slipping. Remove and inspect ASAP.

casting # should be on back near where bell housing connects. May be difficult to find with all the wires and hoses.

    Engine dies going into reverse

Sounds like OD was out of water while motor was running? u may have damaged water pickup impeller? Was RPS correct range while OD down in water and shifting between gears?

    Water when pulling stern drive

can be a nightmare to install w/o some sort of OD stand with rollers. I welded one together that works only fair.
