    Sewing Marine Vinyl?

A few years back I made some clear curtains for my boat. My old Kenmore worked OK to good. Although, my first attempts sucked. I got pretty good at it and finished my project. I am getting ready to sew clear inserts. I suspect 20 gauge will do. 10 gauge too light and 30 gauge too thick. I cannot...

Mercruiser 5.0 crankshaft front oil seal replacement

Examine bearing surface carefully. Usually grit causes seal to fail. You may have to add a "Speedy seal" kit.

Define "Clunks" better! Maybe Bendix? Old boat! Pray it is not flywheel ring gear going bad. Been there! Fore peace of mind, pull plugs and see if any rust.

Alpha 1 Gen 2 - Twin Merc 5.0 MPI - trim and trailer up and down both not working

jump solenoid. My first thoughts are bad grounds or connections. If a saltwater boat, I'd bet on it. I added plastic shields (covers) to both my trim motors, including solenoids. Salt spray ruined two solenoids.

REMOVE CANISTER AND TRY BLOWING THROUGH HOSE. Mud Dobers are bad here about plugging air vents. The screens might need replacing too.

Did research re slow trim tilt but…

That's old!!!! I have rebuilt rams before, but I live in a saltwater environment. They get old fast. Disconnect hydraulics on rams and the ram ends closes to prop. You should be able to manually raise and lower prop. See if you can compress rams or fluid out. If you can't, your pump can't...

1997 carver 5.7 port engine removal

INDEED! Unfortunately, back in the day, boat builders built boats to sell and could care less about future repairs. Many also added boat top caps after motors, wiring and fuel tanks were installed, which lead to nightmares when pulling motors or tanks. Removing the sliding door should not be...

1997 carver 5.7 port engine removal

I suggest removal exhaust manifolds piece by piece to lighten weight. You might build a small a frame to fit inside cabin to coffin-hoist block up just enough to put onto an engine mount.

    5.7 Overheating

at idle and muffs on with water ON from spigot, disconnect hoses, one at a time, from exhaust manifolds. You should get sprayed with water. If not, examine water pump in lower unit and the tube that goes to upper unit. But, if you have plenty of water, your thermostat may be defective. Remove...

Still having shift issues and need / like some input

I had an alpha that even a local shop could fix the shifter. Had to be slop somewhere but we could not find it. Don't feel bad. It would stall engine going from forward to neutral. We restart motor and were able to go in reverse. Going forward it would stall again. Good luck!

CONTINUITY cable from transom to engine?

Mine have heave marine grade cables (tinned), which seem redundant since the cast iron block bolts to transom.

    Replace metal drain plug?

I'd replace the plastic with brass or galvanized. There is a hose kit that replace v8 drain plugs that provides a pretty strong hose. On the hose end is a threaded brass cap. Obviously, you can use gravity to drain oil or attach a pump to brass cap.
