    spin-on gas filter

All it is is money.....am no expert, but you don't want a filter that would cause a problem with fuel flow.....not sure how strong the fuel pump is on your 9.9hp.....it will have to be able to suck fuel through whatever filter you get.

The oil is in solution.....it cannot be filtered out. (y)

    spin-on gas filter

Shouldn't need a water separator filter on a portable tank as you can just dump it out if water gets in there. Hard to do with a built in tank. It could work but the filter would have to be mounted somewhere in a vertical position in the boat, then connect your portable tank to it. Probably...

1984 force 125 low compression question?

It's your motor you can do what you want......WD-40 is good but I don't think it will fix your compression problem. 30-40 PSI tells me it is time to take a look.....snake camera in the plug hole or remove the head. It won't hurt anything to try the WD-40 and find out for yourself if that will...

1984 force 125 low compression question?

Back firing could be a timing issue.....maybe a sheared flywheel key. I would not run it again until you figure out what is going on with the low compression on cyl#3....that is a known problem that needs to be addressed first.

1984 force 125 low compression question?

Was referring to the gasket leaking....uneven or too much torque can cause the gasket to leak.

1984 force 125 low compression question?

The torque spec for the port cover bolts is not much at all.....don't have my manual handy but Mastertech Marine shows 70 inch lbs for 1/4-20 size bolts....or about 6 FT Lbs. If over torqued can cause it to leak.....FYI

That is a great idea.....will try that next time! (y)

1984 force 125 low compression question?

See post #6....jerry says that a bad fuel pump or gasket should have nothing to do with low compression in that cylinder......OP said he resealed the port cover and new gasket for fuel pump. Time to take a look at #3 cylinder I think..... He should have been able to see the side of the piston...

1990 Force 120HP #2 Cyl zero compression and upon opening piston shows damage

Been there, done that with a jack.....the angle is the ticket. LU can get heavy quickly trying to stab it in there, lol. Your idle issue....to me sounds like a fuel starvation problem.....if you didn't clean/rebuild the carbs before it might be time to do it. Check all fuel hoses, primer...

1990 Force 120HP #2 Cyl zero compression and upon opening piston shows damage

Looks like yours has a 130* tstat......140 not that high. You got good water pressure on hose, muffs sealing good?

1984 force 125 low compression question?

Freshwater engine should be easy......saltwater engine could be trouble, bolts snapping off, etc.....

If you get no response on here, you can call maxrules(master tech) and ask Bill Kelly the owner. Or call Franz at Franz Marine.....he would know for sure. (y)

1984 force 125 low compression question?

The transfer port gaskets can be a source of trouble.....can cause a cylinder to suck air and run lean. You can test them by spraying starting fluid all around the intake side while running...the engine will stall if they are leaking. I too used a sealer on those gaskets.....against the advice...

1984 force 125 low compression question?

Is the fuel pump gasket good? Might be time to pull the head and take a looksy.....could be a bad head gasket.....or scored #3 cylinder/piston.....post some pics if you find anything damaged or don't look right.

1990 Force 120HP #2 Cyl zero compression and upon opening piston shows damage

When alarm goes off check temp of head with IR thermometer......if not hot then you got a wiring/elec problem.....or maybe a bad thermo switch.
