[SPLASHED] I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I had the boat out today for some more break-in running. I was not able to do too much, because one of the trim tabs was in the full down position and would not retract. Later in the day, I was able to fix the trim tab. I got the engines up to 3200 RPM and a boat speed of 28 mph. and ran the...

    Exhaust bellow slipped off

Loud pipes, save lives . . . not sure if you can go with the tube instead of the bellows on the Alpha, but it sure save the agony of getting the bellows to stay connected.

[SPLASHED] I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

It's splashed . . . . . . We launched the boat at about 9:00 am today. It was pretty windy, so not much to do but put the boat on the mooring. I put 0.3 hr on the clock, so it is out of its initial break-in phase. The next phase is going up to 2,500 RPM in a varied fashion. . The boat sits...

[SPLASHED] I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

The boat is done and ready to launch. The re-power shop reached out around noontime and we went over and got the boat. . . The Helm display and controls came out really nice. . . It appears that the engines are large . . . . . . . . The ride home was uneventful . . . . . I had the...

[SPLASHED] I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I am hoping today is the day . . . if not, probably Monday, when we splash the boat. I got an update from the re-power shop last night and they are down to a handful of things needing to be completed. The family vacation starts this weekend, so the timing is close, as I knew it would...

    Lost my mooring

I download the waitlist each year, so I have them dating back to 2017. It is interesting to see the progression of the lists. Some folks put themselves on multiple harbor lists, in hopes that one of them will come through at some point. Some names disappear off of the lists, which indicates...

    Lost my mooring

@tphoyt - Inquiring minds want to know . . . After all these years, how did the authorities catch you?

    Lost my mooring

I believe the Harbor Master may assign the spot to someone, but they would then need to have a mooring put in. It's sort of how things work around Massachusetts waters. The harbor masters permit the location, the permit holder gets the mooring tackle installed and maintained in accordance with...

    Lost my mooring

@tphoyt . . . BTW - Check out the Tisbury Mooring Regulations (Harbor Master Website). They have some provisions for loaning out moorings that may be unused, which may get you by until you (or your decedents  ) can get a mooring assigned. Falmouth tried doing that for a year or 2, but...

    Lost my mooring

Yes, the mooring was probably listed under the family's name, so it was not yours, and probably the annual fee was not getting paid. Back in the 1960's-70's the common practice was to drop a mooring where ever it looked to be OK. We had a Beetle Cat back then and dropped our own mooring...

    Lost my mooring

@tphoyt . . . Was the mooring under your name or was it listed as your friend's mooring, who passed away. If it was listed as his mooring, then that's the issue.

    Lost my mooring

@tphoyt . . . FWIW - West Falmouth Harbor has 212 people on the waiting list. I am at #29 for my sailboat. I think I was about #90 when I got on the list about 10 years ago. So, it moves 5-6 positions each year. Some people on the list are there for a move request, so the list is a bit...

    Lost my mooring

@tphoyt , bummer . . . :( Was the mooring still listed under the 'buddy's' name? If so, it makes sense that you lost the mooring spot. Otherwise, I'm not sure how they would know or care? All the mooring lists in Falmouth are crazy long (150+). I got my mooring in 1998 and applied for a...

[SPLASHED] I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Quick Update . . . I was over at the shop yesterday . . . The steering parts arrived on Friday so the work is proceeding. I'm hoping to have the boat by Friday of this week, but we shall see. I gave the re-power shop the trim tabs to install, since they can probably do it at the tail-end of...

    Mechanic tricks?

I often use a piece of pipe over the handle end of a socket wrench to create a breaker bar. I also use an adjustable wrench tightened to the a square shaft of a screw driver to create some leverage on a stubborn screw. Otherwise I will use a manual impact set on the screw to loosen it.
