Re: 18' Starcraft SS Restoration

I got lucky :D:D Now lets see:
You get what you give,
No good deed goes unpunished,
Good things come to those who wait,
Every Dog has his day,
From the day I had fishing I would guess I have to be nice for at least 3 months. Some things just ain't fair  LOL
(Thank You Lord)

Ya know Mike it really won't matter what I catch in the SS. I'm just going to look good in it. My theory is going fishing is allways fun, actually catching fish is just a bonus.:D

I have wet sanded and wiped the boat down. I am giving it a hour to make sure its dry then wipe once more and apply second coat of paint.

What V8? Are you in reverse??? I feel like I can't get much slower (other than mentally). If only I had more time & money & energy I believe I may be faster...:D Besides, I'm sure you will be done way before me, I've seen you work.:p

Re: 18' Starcraft SS Restoration

Painted second coat last Sunday. Tonight I am running tape to mark off my stripe. BUT I gotta tell ya'll, I have been looking for a trailer since mine is too small (6 weeks now). After a few close purchases (always call too late) I came across another deal. Glavanized for a 18' boat, $200. I called, left e-mail msg, no reply. Got a call today from the guy. He has the car shop right behind where I work! Yes I got it, SS fenders and all :p Then my co worker tells me about a friend of his that has a boat, motor (115hp) and trailer for $200. I also order 2 gal epoxy from US Composites this morning. I think my wife may kill me once she finds out what I've spent today....naaaah, she's a sport.:D

Re: 18' Starcraft SS Restoration

Strange how I went to looking for a trailer and now may be getting two galvanized trailers, one Johnson 115hp, new teleflex steering, 1 electric winch, electric trim tabs ( I think), 2 plastic 12 gal fuel tanks, and some other accessories. I may have pics on those by friday.
But thats not why I posted. I got the boat ready for painting the stripe.:p

My problem is this...I couldn't wait until Friday evening to paint, so I sprayed the first coat on.
The good news is I don't think the Coast Guard would ever have trouble finding me.

I may have to mix in black or blue to make it maroon or something. Then again, I ain't never seen a fire engine red boat before!!!

Boat looks great. Just wondering what mix you used for the primer and paint. Thinned 10%, 20%? I am getting ready to ZC and then prime and paint with the same Interlux products. I actually am spraying I think with the same gun from HF so I thought I wouldn't reinvent the wheel. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Re: 18' Starcraft SS Restoration

Thanks Jim.
Floyd I thinned it 10%. I read that it seems to lay better with less thinner. This is my first time too so I am no expert. I will tell you that you will like the HVLP sprayer. I can definately see where you get less overspray. You will notice I don't have close up pics, thats because I have a little orange peel but what the heck, it's a boat.:D
I am hoping I can buff that little bit out but if not I won't lose sleep.
