Great news on your rain there and nice work getting another coat on the hull!

What is that, an early 80's Knight Rider OB? No decals, stealthy!:D

Re: 18' Starcraft SS Restoration

Its a '86 Merc 135 hp. When I first got it 6 yrs ago is when I discovered IBoats. I had to do timing and link to it and the guys really helped me out:D After a few yrs of tinkering with it I got it to run REALLY great. I would kinda hate to take it off the bass boat but I am curious as to how it would make the SC move. I have a 19" SS prop on it and run 56mph @ 6000 rpm. I need to go to a 21" pitch to bring the rpm down, which would bring up the speed a tad. ( I don't think I need any more speed though)
#10 on the pucker factor:rolleyes:

Oh it was a joke. I have painted 3 boats now black, and EZ keeps telling me to stop with the black. Luckily I am all out of black paint now....:D

I am sure whatever you paint, it will be AWESOME!

Re: 18' Starcraft SS Restoration

Your bass boat will get up on the pad and run but your Starcraft won't. A 19 will do fine and your top speed will be around 45. My FrankenMerc has a 1.87:1 gearcase and I run a 19 most of the time. It'll turn 8000 rpm but it is blue printed and balanced so it can handle it.

These boats gets scary tough to handle after 60. The long keel and sharp upturn at the forefoot makes them want to lay over and chine walk.

Your boat will handle the 400 lb motor no problem and it's a good motor with lots of life left in it should you ever decide to rebuild it.

Re: 18' Starcraft SS Restoration

I knew you were joking Isaac, Ez' favorite color is RED. I have kept up with your resto's and I like the black, great job.
Sschefer, I don't expect the same speed as the bass boat, two completely different animals. Like expecting my 17hp riding mower motor to push an 18 wheeler. I think 45 mph is all I would want and don't even need that. I'm more into reliability now. I wanted speed when I fished bass tourney's, but that was many years ago:p
8000 RPM????? I fished a Federation Tourny once with a guy that had a built Black Max. When it idled it sounded like a dragster. Ran like one too. He did 75mph with me in it...once. Never again my friend, never again.....

LOL, yep it's a kinda funny at the dock. I run 115 covers on it and invariably get told I need to get it tuned up. I run 40:1 mix and it smokes a little at idle.

It never fails, I get someone waving good bye to me at the no wake bouy's as they show off their hole shot. I wave back as I pass them with their heads hung low.

Re: 18' Starcraft SS Restoration

Well another week past and more in debt. I have been working on the boat and accomplished a little bit but need help (again) from the pros. I am painting the boat with Interlux Brightside. My simple question is do I sand in between coats and if so what grit # ? I think it should be wet sanded. I am also going to have two colors. After I finish the base coat, do I just tape up and apply my stripes or do I need to sand that area too? After all paint is done with stripes, do I need to sand & buff or is that depending on the final outcome?
I bought a HVP sprayer from HF and have the base coat on, looks good. I am going back at it tonight and not sure if I paint or sand.
Pics to come this evening. Thanks guys
Oh, I have been asked if I am going to use VC on the bottom and the answer is no. All the information says that VC is NOT for aluminum.

VC performance epoxy is for Aluminum if you use the barrier coating first. In fact, it is the best thing for bunk trailered boats. I have no complaints about mine.

No advice on the paint questions yet huh?
Here are a few pics.

I had never used a sprayer like this before. I like it a lot. Very easy to apply, very little overspray and lays paint down well. Its faster too. This is base coat, I need a second coat after sanding(?)
Hey Ya'll, my boats shiney:D

Wish I could help ya on your paint questions man, but I have the same questions myself. I am watching closely and learning right with ya.

She is looking sweet already!

I stink at spraying but you might be giving me new hope to give it another try. We shall see.

Rock on!:D

I too have decided to not use VC and just go with brightsides for the bottom. It will be a trailerable boat but the price was to much for the quart of VC, plus the brightsides for the sides and top of the boat .. When i paint mine, i'll just let it set up real good before putting back on trailer. And it won't sit in the water more than a day at MOST. I have no dock so it will be in and out of the water same day.

Oh by the way, i decided to buy my supplies as West Marine. No offense to Iboats or my wallet, but i figured that West Marine is literally 10 minutes from me. If i purchase something and need to return it, i don't have to worry about shipping etc. Also the price for shipping takes off some of the savings when purchasing online. I have already made a mistake. I purchased the Sapphire Blue for the top of my boat and should have gone one shade lighter. I'll already have to return the 1 quart as it is. So it turns out i was right to buy locally. Although my wallet would disagree. The Moeller ZC was DOUBLE the price of iboats.

All were about the same size, 2 1/2 to 3 lbs and I had a ball. I think it was 9 bass total in about 6 hrs fishing.
Ok back to work.
