Re: 1959 Glasscat Catamaran Project Underway.

You know it really is. A year and a half ago when I brought home that horrible blue mess (and everybody thought I was insane…especially my parents did; whom home it lived the whole time) I really did not think I could make something as nice as I have so far. I mean compared to somebody who has done this before (or even who has and knows how to use real tools and build something) my boat still is really rough (I can see the amateur in just about every aspect of it). But for me, I cannot believe that the project is at least coming to a close (or at least a real splash). I have learned so much over the course of the year from you guys, the internet in general and from just playing around that it really is mind boggling to me. For example if you told me a year ago that I would know how to apply fiberglass (and it sticks) I would not believe it. Or even my plaster walls. If you look at the first wall I did in the bathroom (with the towel bar) compared to the last one I did on the opposite side of the boat you can see a great deal of improvement. I never knew how to apply plaster. Heck I even DIY a small wooden HAWK for the application.
The fun meter is really off the chart already. I am already planning crayfish trips on the delta, 1000 miles of navigable water (and building my own traps; anybody know how?) and of course bouncing around the bay in Monterey.
Thank you all for pushing me to this point, without you all I would not be here
Maybe when I get to be an old geezer (and I have 10 boats or so under me, I will be a master like some of you guys).
Dave.

Your right JB,

Dave,

All I gotta say is, going from where you began to where you are now...

You have done an amazing and in my opinion very successful job on bringing this really cool looking boat back from oblivion...

You should be extremely proud and walk around with your head held high, knowing that you have accomplished what few would even dare to try...

May you and yours enjoy "Monterey Dreams" for many, many fun outings...

Keep us posted on your sea adventures and ongoing improvements and additions to your wonderful boat.

Now go get-r-wet!

Happy Boating,
Gus

Registerroot, and Gus;
Thank you both for the compliments, I am blushing (Ha, HA)! :D The lettering is done by sticker from one of those guys in the mall who makes the ?eye candy? seen on most cars today (graphics and words ?fear this?, etc.). As to getting her wet, I still need a little more time. A bit of wiring and I still need to build another bench and attach the seats. I am hoping to accomplish it all over the next weekend. Sooo if all works out maybe 2 weeks for spash.

Gus, your yard looks empty after that big boat was pulled out of it. I think you should be like boatnut (Andrew) and stick at least 2 or 3 more projects in there.
Thanks guys, gotta run to work.

There maybe more places out there, that was just the 1st that came up. Esp if there are varying shipping rates, so hunt around & find a total price that works for ya. If that link is it, great.... Happy to help.....

Keep up the hard work, it's paying off... Good looking, non-typical boat. <<--Makes it all the better....

Hey Dave, just checking in on you and I see the Boat has come a long way and looks great! I love your cooking box! haha Just as I had visioned for you. Haven't had enough time lately to actually scan the threads. Lately it's just been come on check my mailbox and off. We are finally making progress on this end... Just put in the knew steering cable, helm, and wheel. Up next comes the water pump rebuild.

Really love the name of the boat and how the "eye candy" guy helped you out. Really looks great!

Whats your plan to hide the spot light wiring? And how are you going to work all these lights battery wise? are you running a cranking and deep cycle?

Hi Cowboy,

HA, too busy to check up on the threads?.Hmmmmmm must be all those girls again.:p Yes. You lucky little??&^%$#@, ahem, excuse me. Helm and cables huh. :DI?m glad you came back to see the box. I hoped you would soon; I wanted you to know I took your advice.
As for the wires, I don?t have a clue yet. Maybe later after splash I can drill a hole or two and run them inside the cabin or hidden away somewhere. For now I am just going to secure them with wire ties and move on to the next task. I really want memorial weekend coming up to be spash date at latest. All the prettying up can be later at leisure. I am sick of dry dock and want to get WET.
Glad to hear you are well buddy.
Oh ya guys, I got an appointment with my boat friend Seth for Saturday morning to look at my motor again and hopefully get it running. He thinks it?s the safety thing that F_R told me about.

Nice, looks like a good idea for a very water resistant switch box...

Re: 1959 Glasscat Catamaran Project Underway.

Hi guys thanks for checking in Gus and Bill.
I am glad you guys approve. LOL I know I am on the right track if you both say Yea!
I am out working on the boat just wanted to pop in and tell you the motor is working beautifully.
Seth told me I made a rookie mistake when I put the LU back on. I had the rod not matching the gears so when I thought it was in neutral I was in gear! So the motor would not work with the kill switch.
It’s all fixed. I need a new set of cables. Mine are a little worn out (45 years or so will do that). So I need to go from reverse to forward then switch back to neutral if I want it to idle in N.
He taught me how to adjust the tension on the cables both at the motor and how to take apart the control box.
Anyways I built the other bench today and attached the cushions.

Re: 1959 Glasscat Catamaran Project Underway.

Now I am out hooking up lights and running wires. I also am waiting for my new bench to dry and then I am going out in an hour or so and put the spar urethane on the bench.
It is really hot tonight so it is drying fast.

So I got permission from the boss. If I can get it all done tonight I can go to the Lake tomorrow?.Wahoooooo. I feel a splash in my future.
