Sorry Jim, I really think we need some spring to happen.

It seems we have reduced ourselves to hijacking your thread and talking about big piles of steaming doodoo:hopelessness::hopelessness::hopelessness::hopelessness:

Re: 1960's Falcon Rebuild (New Title)

When applying the Gluvit are you trying to get it under the rib? or just on top of the rivets?

I just coat all the rivets on the ribs, the ones down the center and along the sides. I also goop it over the multitude of rivets at the stern and the all around the brace. The stuff sorta oozes under the rib --- so it will (at least in theory --- and in practice on the last 2 boats) seals around the rivets. Shouldn't really be any need that I can think of to get it under the rib as there is just a void space.

Oh ya, at the bow I coat that area where the two sides meet --- there is the manuf. brownish gunk there --- I just coat over it thoroughly.

Hope that helps!

Re: 1960's Falcon Rebuild (New Title)

Good question, I have never stepped in American dog poop!!

Ok... who let you two out off your leashes?? :) I bet you guys like to smell yur own *arts!!

Look I think it starts at an early age! My kids just this morning had a "*art and waft" competition whilst getting ready for school.... I swear they weren't dropped on their heads when they were younger!

Man...

But ya... really does smell... but not as bad as what Dr. Pamela Dalton did --- Specifically, she focused on two kings of the stench world—rotting corpses and human waste—and recreated them in her lab. To these she added sulfur (that yummy rotting egg smell) and a sweet, fruity overtone.

Gluvit is Yummy by comparison --- but IMO, lacks the "fruity overtone" of her concoction!

Yes thanks.
The brownish gunk had pulled loose so I cut it out. I will be applying the Gluvit heavily in that area.

Ok... so what happens when you stare at a boat too long and you have a plan in your mind of what you want to do?

Ya end up completely changing it....

Ohhh, oh.....:confused-new:

Ya... details to follow... but she may despite wanting to stay a "purist" remain an open bow --- and going totally boston whaler open style!

That's what happens with these "Zen Contemplation StarCraft Hanger Rooms".....

Re: 1960's Falcon Rebuild (New Title)

Ok guys... here's the deal:

Boating for us has always been a family thing... so while the Admiral and I like the wooden boat cruiser style, the kids are the exact opposite. So, after a family discussion, we agreed to the following where everyone has their say and is happy with the outcome --- the Admiral more or less!

- Open bow
- Console with a bench extending from the side of the console for the kids
- Console to be roughly in the middle of the boat
- bench with 2 seats on sliders behind the console extending across the boat
- either open to the splash well behind console seats or a deck 4-6" below the top of the gunwales
- large pad in the open bow with grab handles
- padded seat in front of the drivers console
- 9 gal gas tank to go below the console seat bench
- wood covering the gunwales and on the inside sides of the boat
- nautalex equiv flooring and on the seat area at the front.
- close design style --- check out a B. Whaler Super Sport 130 or 150... I know their of the itchy type... but gives a good visual of the direction this thing is gonna take!

So there you have it... a totally new design. I like it! :) I know it's got wood that will eventually rot... but, it was an Admiral must and since there is a lot of compromising on her part, it stays!

Should be a lot lighter of a design as well --- a good thing for towing with the Camry.

Friday, work commences...

Have a great evening fellas...

Sounds like a super functional design, and should look real pretty with the wood.

Do you get the same looks north of the border as I get pulling my Chief with a Subaru Impreza? I'm not sure what power train yours has, but most Camry models are rated to tow well over 3000 lbs...1600 kg...in the UK and Australia. My Suby is rated at 4000 in those markets.

It's a conspiracy I tells ya

Sheesh and I had trouble deciding on what to laminate my dash with. Sounds like the family is agreement on the design of this one.

Thanks CW! Looking forward to getting at it tomorrow aft! The Camry is a 2014 and new to us in Dec... so haven't towed with it yet. But with the Mazda 6 wagon, most looks result in a conversation at the launch area about how it is nice to see old boats being restored and taken care. This usually leads to a conversation down memory lane for folks!! All good. But the Jupiter isn't really that big of a boat in proportion to the Mazda. The chief and the subi would be an interesting site for sure!

I here ya... normally it takes me for ever.... but this one was super easy. Kiddo's love the concept and want to know when we can go boating! Simple answer: I need to finish the boat and we need something called "soft water"!

Thanks man... ya I've really changed direction... but buy-in is 100% by the kids... The Admiral request is a great "door opener"... she would like her "own boat". I am NOT allowed to name this one "Classy Lady".

Ya know what.... I'm cool with those requests!!! :)

Have a great lunch folks!

i like your plan. esp building the Chief what she wants. she obviously has good taste based on her enthusiasm for wood on boats and tin head spouse. just remind the kids that the pronoun that begins that sentence about finishing the boat is "we" not "I"..........or at least the boat hits the water faster that way....;)

and besides, this means that you can do the full-woodie look on the NEXT one............:D

Re: 1960's Falcon Rebuild (New Title)

Ok... first the good news:

Got the trailer. Got the supplies.

Got this done....

Ok... so that out of the way... here's the skinny: No go on the open concept! Yup... just not gonna work for us. After laying it out in the boat with the floor in and seeing how it looked and worked, it will just be too tight up front and the falcon is too narrow to get to seats beside the console for the kiddos.

So, devised a new plan that is really just a fairly significant update to what was plan A! :D

More to come over the next day or two....

Have a great evening fellas!

Thanks Glen...

Good eye... I didn't even notice that! I'll return it tomorrow and get the right stuff!

PS - That's the new version of LePages Green Contact Cement. It now comes in the plastic container vs the 1 qt metal container.

Thanks,

Jim
