Hey Jim, really like the color choice. Floor looks real good. Will this diagram work for ya.

Hey thanks Glen! Happy May 24 man!!! Hope you and yours are having a great one so far!!!!

Diagram looks good... just doesn't scale up... so it is in micro font!!! Don't know if you happen to have a version I can enlarge...

Looking good Jim, I know I am being lazy by not going back and looking at your builds but I will ask anyway. Is this the first boat that you used vinyl? Do you like it better than carpet? I have read lots of different opinions.

That's the ticket! I must be getting old or something.... me eyes are not what they used to be! Looks great.

J.

Old guys often go color blind, Jim. Do you need the schematic annotated for wire color? :)

I used it on the Jupiter and love it. Easy to clean. Since I run it up the sides and glue it, it acts as a protective barrier wrap for water to get to the floor. Finishes the floor off nicely IMO. Carpet from my experience traps the water and will ultimately accelerate floor rotting unless it is completely dried out. Also, where we are, there are A LOT of pine needles and dirt that the kiddo's track into the boat. Unless my our shoes are really muddy, I am not one to require folks to take their shoes off. This stuff looks clean even if it is dirty.

Bottom line... I think it is really the way to go. Not the most inexpensive... but certainly makes maintenance easy and stays looking good. Price wise to do the Jet.... with the vinyl for the seats and the glue was just over $200 cdn. Something perhaps for you to consider.

Re: 1964 Starcraft Jet - Rebuild

Well.... I think some Canuks (uhhhh me) do things a little backwards. Because for some reason (mainly I tend to scratch things) I paint right at the end... I had to install the rear cleats and light first. So... check. They're done. Then I fabbed up a bracket for the bilge pump and installed the pump. Check. Done. Then I was able to get the splashwell back in and test fitted. Tomorrow I will get it installed and sealed.

So there are a few things I will need to do on the boat before getting the rest of the woodwork done. Really trying to get these knocked out now to get it rolling.

Ended up building a flagstone entrance way for the front steps... it was kinda there... but not that well done. So I enlarged it, did it a lot nicer, re-routed the downspout with a rock outflow, put a bench there and generally purdied it up. Oh ya, got out for another long bike ride with the Family today and practiced long jump, triple jump and 100 yard (for the non Canuks) dash. Just finished up a campfire out back with roasted marshmellows....Overall a pretty productive and fun day!

Have a great May two four weekend fellas!

Ya... pics tomorrow...

IM- how are you planning on having two gas tanks and a battery? I was thinking of that as well! I'd upgrade to 2 batteries later

Moving forward Jim, sounds like you had a real good day with the family. The Admiral an I went out in the SS and she got her first taste of fish poop yesterday, till we got caught in a rain storm.

I am building a "sun deck" directly behind the rear seat.... about 2 feet in depth. It will be well vented --- front and back for good air flow. It will be large enough to hold to portable gas tanks and the battery.

maybe not exactly what people are thinking of when they say "splash", but it's the first fish poop and spilled beer that REALLY breaks the boat in....

Re: 1964 Starcraft Jet - Rebuild

More progresso....

Splashwell temporarily back in place...

Pump installed and ready for wiring up..

Bulk head... originally I had thought about using it for storage with a door. However, because of the bench seat up front and the raised flat floor, it will be a real challenge to get up and under there. So I am simply going to close it off. It will be just be screwed in place... I will have carpet on to cover the plywood backer and the nice wood in front to give it a more finished look to tie in with the rest of the boat.

In the morning I will get the splashwell in place and the bulk head bracing in place. I ran out of wire so I need to get that before I can finish up the wiring rough in. I also realize I do not have a fuse block or a plate for the 4 switches I have. So gotta get those sooner than later.

Have a great evening fella's!

Hey Jim, is that cork gasket material you are using around the splash well?
