Hey, sorry I guess I really never touched on that part, all I did was use a 4" angle grinder with a wire wheel, I used the heavy duty wire wheel, they type that is is twisted together. Looks like this.

So I did not have it all to bare metal, though it would be better, however that's allot of work. I was going to have the whole thing sand blasted but they wanted $500, so I said forget that. As for painting I just use a cheap brush.

Thanks! The trailer looks awesome!

Now that I see that C channel from a different angle, I have to agree that it's prolly wide enuf.
I think $20 bucks of pinstriping would make your trailer "POP"

Got a bunch more done tonight.

Got the doubler/reinforcement/winch stand platform done. This is where someone half arse'd welded on some metal for the old winch support, and it was never welded all the way around so water could get in and stay there, needless to say it was fairly rusted and pitted underneath it, so had to grind it down allot, so I wanted to bring the strength back up, and it makes a better spot for the winch tower to mount too.

I wish I had a Mig welder for this welding, TIG is slow going for this when sitting down on the floor, and with dirty old rusty metal.

Also got the walkway mounted on.

Great idea with the walkway! Are you going to put anything for traction on it?

Haha - sure beats scraping yourself up if it gets wet and you slip off...it's happened to me more than a couple times!

Yes, amen to that! Wonder what I could use. Maybe I can get some sticky back grip or something.

It seems like I run across sticky-back grip at random places like Meijer or Walmart around here pretty regularly. I don't know what stores you have out in Canada, but you should be able to find something even on ebay without spending too much!

HD has it too...

I'd wash the rail with acetone, apply the tread tape, maskng tape it off and then paint. That way it's stuck to the metal and not the paint.

Thanks Wood. I found some at another store that's half that price. I'm not going to paint it. To paint aluminum properly take much more prep then Steel. I have all the stuff to do it, just don't really want to.

Glad you found some! Where did you end up going? Was it local, or online?

Thanks Parris - I'll have to check it out - especially if they have good prices. I think I'm going to pick up a couple of pieces eventually to use on my own trailer and may even use one up near the bow as a place to step off to the dock... haha - thanks again for the source!

Ya, for sure. I think they are Canadian based.
