good going.. if not mistaken some of the marine block where buily off the GM Nova blocks. parts did interchange. but you might want to put and inline filter on it... Keep up the good work... Looking awsome...

Be very aware of that Automotive fuel pump especially if you have an engine cover. While it will work it is manufactured differently in case of failure. On a car if the diaphragm fails it leaks fuel on to the driveway. On a boat that would be into the bilge. Boat fuel pumps typically have a line that goes from the vent in the pump to the carb. That way if the diaphragm fails it pumps fuel into the horn of the carb instead of the bilge. A marine electric pump and block off plate for the motor is a safer solution. Or spend the $100. The fuel system is not where you want to skimp.

The hole you can see in this pic is where the fuel will leak from if/when that pump fails.

Thanks LM. I was wondering where that extra hose goes. Hmmm, maybe I can tap a tube there and just install the hose back on.

Won't work. Then if the diaphram goes you will fill your oil pan with fuel. There is no easy way out on this one.

Hi Guys:

I had the same problem with my fuel pump, same model as yours. You can find a rebuild kit and they are very inexpensive, I rebuilt mine with no problem. LM's right, don't use the automotive fuel pump under any circumstances, big BADA-BOOM!

Thanks Fellas. Here I thought I was saving money, but the last thing I need is an early 4th of july in my ride. What Ill do is keep the pump to get it running & tune before installation & then replace it. Im gonna do a search again for the rebuild kit.

If the inside of the fuel pump was as it was I wonder how the car looks.

MAH009004.jpg

Nasty thats how. Look at all the dirt that came out.

MAH009007.jpg

MAH0090012.jpg

Hi Guys:

I just love the old MCM inline 4 and 6 and you've done such a good job on your project. I know you're going to love the summer.

U know I was looking for the bolts for the flywheel and I havent been able to find them. It wasnt till i realised that there were studs and not bolts. The shop took them off the crank to do their thing. Gonna go after some studs ..

Ok, carburetor ready for assemby. Parts came pretty clean. After a week in the carb cleaner I would imagine so.

MAH009072.jpg

So I matched the gasket for the bottom base and the middle body got together.

MAH009074.jpg

Middle body looking really clean.

MAH009075.jpg

Installed the venturis, jets, balls, u name it.

MAH009081.jpg

Top section. This part was a litlle more tricky. Ihad to measure the float level, (of course) the float drop adn the plunger length.

MAH009091.jpg

SO here it is, a rebuilt 2gc rochester mercruiser carb.

MAH009102.jpg

I dont know wether to paint itor what.....but im just eager to turn this engine on. I think by sunday I will have it running.

Hi Guys:

Hey Azlo, as you rebuild the motor and the carb so well I'm sure you'll have no problem rebuilding the fuel pump before you put the motor back in the boat! If you paint the external parts black they'll look great against the blue of the block, just a thought.

Man, your gonna hate me. I painted it gold. If my father would see this he would kick my a$#. He always told me never to use the golds, chromes and silver colors. But im in aexperimenting mood. Like I always said, the best learning is the hardway. Also I noticed the alternator was a regular automotive one. So i went ahead and got a 1 wire 105 amp marine alt. Now I noticed the same thing with the starter,,, it never ends.

Gonna wire the old gauges while I run the engine on the stand.

Vroom Vroom. LOL. Will your flywheel fit with the motor on the stand? I don't think I would run that motor on that stand. It will be much safer to go ahead and put it in the boat to test fire it.

I am gonna go out on a limb here and say that he will not start it on the stand as I don't think he can. Need the flywheel installed to start it and you cannot put the flywheel on the motor while it is on the stand. Just my .02 from what I was seeing.

Re: 1968 Holiday Restoration w/pics

I always floor start my junk. Place it on a puller just like you are going to install it then wire and fire. Just makes that leak you didnt know you had so much easier to find and repair. I bought a 83 olds in the nineties that had just had an engine put in. PO did not look very well and the freeze plugs were leaking behind the Bell housing. He was sick and tired of the project and sold it to me for what the engine cost him. 4 hours latter I had a great car for next to nothing. That is one of my biggest reasons for starting engines before I install them. And it just looks cool to have a mill running in the floor on open exhaust. Yes it is dangerous so if you do this be safe OK
