Tell me about it, I'll work on posting some camp pics up. The ol'lady got pics of me baling the boat one morning.

Love how the boat handles. will have to get used to non power steering, not used to the feed back. Kinda looking for a 140 transplant with the alpha outdrive. As long as the price is right. Going to panit the boat i think yellow and bone. Have a matching bimini made with extension to the windshield. the snaps are already made on to the frame anyway

Oh yeah, the way i beached my boat kept this issue from becoming something major. The water would fill the entire bilage area and stop about level with the front of the engine compartment. Which at the angle it sat at, was about 1 above the floor at the transom.
Oh by the way checked the transom when i got back with a screwdriver, PUT IT ALL THE WAY THRU IN SEVERAL SPOTS:eek: Glad i didnt do that before, i might not have gone out in it:facepalm::D

Well one more item on the winter re-do list. Or is it going to be a late summer list now? At least you got to have some fun on the water first. Good luck. Couldn't be in a better forum for help, motivation and the occasional laugh.

Did some research this afternoon on the net. I discovered that little quarter size plug is called my welch plug. Well it came some time while out on the water. Ducted taped it over, for now. I guess add another to the re-do list, outdrive rebuild. No telling how much water got in there.:(

Well glad you got out despite the issues. The rotten transom is probably your leak. Once they go soft, the fasteners leak like heck.

Boating, hunting, fishing, you're going to spoil him. I love seeing Dad's spend quality time with their kids. Good luck on the quest for venison.

Re: 1968 starcraft hoilday 18 i/o 120

Well, i survived the hunting season, and have a couple of vensions steaks to show for my hard work. Also one damn funny hunting story to end our season. (atv, mud and creeks are not always good combos). Back to looking for parts and prices. really thinking about buying a reman engine. Found one for 1195.00, long block. But that will force me to look at options on the outdrive sitution. Back in the summer as i have stated earlier, the freeze out plug blew out of my outdrive. dont think oi did any damage, but still concerned if there is something else wrong. Also have found that plastic sheet plywood like material. considering that to use to repalce the floor, but i am concerned with added weight, strength of the material. Wife suggested composite decking, but still wondering about the weight factor. i am going to follow Azlo thread, and re built my framing with alum instead of wood just so it will last longer and take some weight out. I have to say i'm glad that i had a canvus cover that came with the boat, its old but keeps the interior dry. back to the flooring material, i have found marine plywood very cheap, and the wife planned on putting mardeck down on it anyway. So i propoarly go back to my original plan. So i will keep everyone updated and post pics for all the diy'ers on here. Now as long as uncle sam gives a decent refund check this year, i will have no problem getting her together for the spring summer seaon:D

Re: 1968 starcraft hoilday 18 i/o 120

Another quick thought, i was looking on ebay last night. Noticing all the used engines and outdrives for sale, considering repowering the ol'girl with a 3.0 and a alpha one outdrive. Money is the big issue and time. I like putting a new engine but also the cost of it when i could get away with just re-ringing mine, bearings and maybe have the head gone thru. Lots of different options out here, one is maybe no better then the other. All and any opinions welcome, especially from the "stararmada". I did find a orignal mer control like what was in my starcraft in good condition for 40 bucks, going to get that. The alternative is a 800 doller one that wife found and almost insists that it gets put in the boat:eek:

Hey T3C - Don't forget about those wonderful glass donors for re-powering the Holiday. Find a cheap one with a trashed hull, yank the drive train, strip the good stuff and junk what's left. You might even make some extra cash off of it.
