Re: 1968 starcraft hoilday 18 i/o 120

Already figured out the mount idea. Once I install a new transom, I'm going to mock up with my cracked block. Get the height figured and then measure. Have short stringers made up from the 14 gauge alum and then fill with wood like on Jason islander. Measured the mount holes in the glasser and already know the mounts will sit where my floor stringers are now. So I will just shorten up the old stringers and install some beefy ones for the engine.

I do have a question though, no reason why I can't get a 4.3 block from a auto and just rebuild it with a marine cam. I already got a complete marine top end to go on the block. Figured I would save a little cash there, considering I probably get a block for nothing.

Most the older M/C used truck blocks. I don't know about the 4.3s. If someone could get the casting numbers from a 4.3, you could compare with an auto block. You also need marine core (freeze) plugs and head gaskets.

Well that's what I figured. My busted v-6 that I have for parts is a 87. The swap wouldn't be a issue, all I want is the block anyway. Just have minor machining done it and my heads rebuilt. The rest I can do.

Well here's the good news, went over to the I/o form and asked about the car engine idea. Bond-o assured me that np using a auto engine, just change the freeze plugs, and to swap the intake for whatever setup I want. Going to use his idea and go with the vortec long block. Maybe a 4bbl carb set up, maybe. Of course I may want to save some fuel, so properly just rebuild my 2 bbl , and roll with that. Either way the sc with be a scream'n demon:D

Bond-o threw out an interesting fact in your other thread. Later blocks don't have a hole for a mechanical fuel pump. It makes sense since fuel injection is the norm, so no need. Except when you're working with an older model and swapping parts over.

Np, problem there. I know the fi models have the pump wired thru a oil pressure safety shutdown switch. So whe the engine dies for whatever reason the fuel pump stops. Also know that it bypasses at startup. Will have to find a wiring diagram showing this

Re: 1968 starcraft hoilday 18 i/o 120

Hey got a question? Going to sale my mc1 drive and my 120 inboard for some boat funding money. Curious what to list them for. Got a complete outdrive assembly. And then my engine, wiring harness, etc. not sure what to ask for. I was thinking maybe 400-600 on the drive and maybe 200-400 on the engine assembly. Low balling it or am I close here.

I have no idea on pricing, TTTC. But just sell the motor and outdrive, you will need all the rest of the stuff for a new one. Keep the trim pump, wiring harness and all the transom mounted drive pieces that are the same between the I4 and V6.

Well still pulling stuff out of my donor at this time:D. I have a complete drive setup for the alpha including the power steering. Have my engine harness and my instrument harness for the v-6 as well. Oh yeah the trim pump for the alpha as well. Who knows, maybe I start a salvage yard in my driveway, lol:D

Lol, maybe. Well I got to take some better pics of my stuff and get it listed. We'll see what I can get. I will price it on the high end and let those interested whittle me down to a point

Re: 1968 starcraft hoilday 18 i/o 120

Well, I know it's been awhile since I posted. Been busy with personal carp, moving wife out, moving girlfriend in, meeting wife's new boyfriend, etc, etc. been a wild roller coaster. Okay so I have a question, or two. First of all, when I gluvit the seams, won't be able to put the floor back in for a while, funds are tight. I figured I would be okay if she is flipped so the inside isn't exposed to sunlight. Second of all, any recommendations on what kind of plywood to use for the transom. I know I should use marine, but at almost 100 bucks a sheet, looking for a cheaper option. I know everyone has used different kinds, any one kind better then the other since it will be expoxyed anyway.

Arauco from Lowes or HD is good stuff. Exterior glued and pretty much void free. 30-35 bucks a sheet.

Whoa, a busy roller coaster is right... Shop around and look for some ply sheets with as few voids as possible with the most layers. I asked the lumber guy at my HD about arauco ply and he had no idea what I was talking about.

The price/info sign says made in Chile or some other South American country. And the ply is stamped Arauco, but it's always on the other side, isn't it.

Yeah, I found it on my own. Guy at hd looked at me like I was on a something. :facepalm:Looking at 35 bucks a sheet. Which is a lot better then the 100 bucks a sheet.
