I guess I didn't pay attention to the 3" thickness. The foam boards laminated sounds good. My boat didn't have those.

Does anyone know of a good supplier of poly resin and materials in the New England area?

If not, is Us-composites in FL the best place to order from?

A LOT of the guys on here get their supplies from www.USComposites.com in Florida. Really good prices and very good products. You'll like what you get. WEST SYSTEMS is kinda Pricey if you ask me. Check out the 1708 biax. Real easy to use for the novice glasser and super strong results. 5 Gallons of Resin is a good starting place. Get the UN-Waxed if your gunna use poly. You can buy some wax to mix in for your final coat. 10 yrds of cloth should be a good start too.

I'm just sayin...:D

I got mine locally, but I did use some west systems 406 Colloidal Silica, to make peanut butter for bedding the transom and it worked nice. I had to use a lot more than the marina told me to, but I did get the right result.

I used 8 gallons of resin, and about 10 yds of csm along with 4 yds of 1708 bi-ax.

Is the purpose of the wax to seal the final coat of glass/resin or ease of sanding the final coat?

Thanks for the numbers. I'll make sure I get extra of the Silica. :)

Did you use 1.5oz csm (1 or 2 layers) on the deck or 1 layer of 2.0oz csm?

Are you near Sunapee? I was there when I was younger. Very beautiful lake, and town. I would love to go back some day.

I'm about 50 minutes south of Sunapee. However, once I get her done, I plan on hitting Sunapee and a bunch of others in the area.

However, growing up, I was at Winnipesaukee on the weekends during the Spring, Summer and Fall.

A buddy of mind lives on Highland Lake in Washington not too far south of Sunapee.

I know this is dumb question but when you "soak" your plywood, do you mix the resin with the hardener or just apply a coat of resin for the wood to soak up?

How long do you wait for it to soak in before you start with your laminating or glassing?

Not sure what your trying to do fstorm. Are you glassing the plywood or just giving it a coat of resin. Either way you have to mix your resin and hardener together then apply it to the plywood. If your glassing, do it in sections, start at one area, apply the resin hardener mix then lay down the glass and coat it in more resin until thoroughly soaked. Then continue on. I see your using polyester so you have to work fairly quickly. Have your fiberglass material cut to the sizes that you want. This will take some practice, so don't get discouraged if you screw up. It's a learning process. Read Micks110 thread...he worked with polyester and did a great job.

I didn't make it to Winnipesaukee when I was there. We were suppose to but something came up. It's been years since I was at Sunapee but I still think about it every now and then..I saw the nicest sunsets ever, even to this day. very beautiful place.

Sorry about the clarity of the question.

I'm just wondering what is meant by "soaking your plywood before laminating the pieces together" in reference to laminating the transom pieces together?

Let me know if the question is still unclear.
