Just a friendly tip...
To make those seams dissappear...
Lay down a coat of epoxy just over the seams, let it completely dry, sand smooth with 80 grit.
Then, lay down another coat and feather it out a few inches further, let it completely dry, sand smooth with 80 grit.
Repeat that process like 3 - 5 times (your mileage may vary) feathering a little farther out each time, those seams will simply go away
Have fun buddy...
Did you seal the ends and underside of those panels with epoxy already?

Small addition to Jason's excellent advice would be to thicken the epoxy first and do it in fewer apps. Then final coat with unthickened to feather.
Someone left the door open again.
All good stuff!!!!!!!
Look good so far BG.... how much epoxy have u used so far .. If I may ask... and u gonna stick with the blue?
Maybe add a strip of cut up glass cloth to that as well
OK, Now here's where a GLASSER can come in handy!!! If you want your Deck seams to Disappear, get some 1.5oz CSM (Chopped Strand Mat) 3" tape. Sand the seam with some 60 grit, clean it with some acetone, lay done some resin, don't need no stinkin epoxy, put the tape down and use a plastic putty knife to smooth it all out. Let it dry. Sand it with some 180 grit and put another coat on. Sand it again with 220 and the seam with be GONE!!!! Now that's how a "DUMB OKIE GLASSER" would do it!!!!![]()
Light gray floor, darker gray panels.
I go with EZ's suggestions, grays will look good and no show the dirt real bad. Your making some real headway on the project.

I think a white deck would look really sharp, till you actually used the boat - then you'd see dirt everywhere, bummer.
I am with these guys ^^^^ on the gray, will look sharp with the blue
Yah, I was for sure going to paint my side panels, but after seeing how nice the vinyl looks, I'll be headed that way now.
Cheers man![]()
I know this isn't to boatbuilding code necessarily, but for my seams I simply put a strip of duct tape on the underside of the seam and filled in any voids with resin.
It acts like one solid piece after that.
Where up north did ya go BG? I'm headed to Presque Isle this weekend.![]()
Hey how wide is your vinyl that you got? I'm thinking of ordering some soon...
We have some property up near Traverse city. Love it up there, and needed to get away. Very close to Lake Michigan and some other great lakes up there.
For behind the side panels I'm almost thinking of using bedliner, maybe I'll scrape off the glue junk and just paint them. Not sure on that but it's something to think about.
I'm not sure about the play sand texture as of now. I'll do a test run on some scrap tonight, but I'm not sure if the texture will be enough to my likings.
You can use my Islander as a trial if you like. I have decided to leave the glue alone and just paint over it. I am pretending like the leftover glue is a bit of "texture".
I did some tests over the winter with some rubberized stuff, hated it.
I did see some cool paint at Lowes the other day, it was textured paint. I think Valspar makes it?? Looked really good
Run some tests with the sand, you may like it. Hey, the price is right![]()
