Re: 1978 Starcraft Holiday 18 Rebirth

Finished powerwashing out the insides today, I wouldnt eat off the hull but its clean enough. Had an hour to kill before dinner and my jug of paint stripper looked like fun. If there was any part of this I truly do hate it would have to be this part of it.

And you wouldn't have to worry about scratching it and save money as well. The thing is it would float just as well too. It does make it look tougher too doesn't it.

Somali pirates haven't floated these waters for years, man, we could have some fun with that! Course the nice OB and pink camo fleeces may tip us off.

How did those pirates get Pettit Easypoxy paint, don't we have trade embargoes? :p:D

Great work on that outboard, she looks as good as she runs now:)

Thanks guys. I'm thinking if ya mount a .50 Cal on the bow I shouldn'nt have to wait inline at the launch or worry about anyone crossing my lines if I'm trolling either, pink camo or not. Lol

I think this stripper is easier than a wire wheel on a drill.

That is looking good, may I ask what kind of stripper did you use? I am thinking that would be a whole lot easier to do on mine as well. And how long did you let it sit on the hull?

I picked up Zip Strip at Meijer which is one of our big groccery stores, sim too Walmart, left it on for about 15 minutes, didnt seem to do anything leaving it any longer. I must say although it is working it is taking 3 applications of it and lots of power washing to get pretty much all clean and I think I only have one layer of paint. It bubbles right off where its on really heavy where I start a brush stroke but out past that it kinda punks out, even though there is visable coverage. But it beats the heck out of wire wheel and its nice and smooth.

Man, that didn't take long. I thought you were going to flip it tonight?

I can't get you that pic with my boat in the garage, not enough room. I'll try to get one Saturday when I take it out.

Hey Charlie, your making some great progress there. The motor looks brand new. It was sure a mess when you bought it.

Re: 1978 Starcraft Holiday 18 Rebirth

Finished up (or giving up :D ) the paint stripping today! Went through two gallons of stripper and I think 1000 gallons of water through the power washer.

As far as stripper goes I tried three of them. Heres how I rank them. Best one was called Dads Easy Spray, coming in a close second was Zip Strip, and third place was Klean Strip StripX Stripper, I shouldnt even give this a ranking other than dont waste your money on it (I returned it to Walmart). It would lift some of the paint off but after putting an even coat on Id say about 10% of it would bubble up. Compared to Dads in action in the picture, this was one spray down with the little spray bottle they provided with it.

Here are a couple other pics, its back in the garage to get ready for primer. Going to take a wire wheel to the seams and reseal them with some 5200 since the stripper softned up the factory stuff.
