Yep it's good... Grinding really never ends while in glass phase... Just less!

I know you mean Bear about the grinding...CONGRATS on finishing it up :)

Now onto bigger and better things!!

Amen brutha!

Now for the fun and easy work :D

It will be a wonderful change doc.... I'm happy you have MBS!

Congrats on getting past suck-fest. You will revisit the grinder again from time to time, but nothing like this... Have a good rest and enjoy the accomplishment....

Rest was good... I'm gonna sit and stare at the hull tonight... I'm getting wood this week, then funding permitted order glass supplies ASAP.

Congrats bro! Now you will find that the real itch begins when you go in/ near the boat without protection. I know I did. Keep finding light dust in places I wouldnt expect to.

That hull looks mighty clean to me though.

Hey Troop!

Yep finding doom dust in places I can't talk about on the net!

Great job bear .... that does suck but it's all done and my hat's off to you my friend for doing such a clean job. Great work!!

Thanks Jon !

Uhhhmmm, I think you missed ONE LITTLE SPOT in the corner!
Man that is one Clean looking hull. Fantastic job. You'll be crusin on the fun stuff now. The powder will soon be forgotten.

Yes I'm a tad anal... I think I'll be re-enforcing a few spots boss... a tad much pressure with 24 grit here and there...

Thanks for the kudos boss!

nice job bear, now its time to start making it your boat!

The best part! Thanks boss!

No surprise that bear would have done pretty much the best clean-out job I've seen to date. Nice work.

Thanks brutha!

Agreed, great job bear!

Doooooood! get a glasser!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Almost... I'm really looking forward to covering the memories!

I'll be starting transom ASAP!

Thanks brutha!

Hey Gang...

So one thing at a time...

I have more than a few thin areas I've either chowed with the 24 grit  or simply were not well glassed from the get go.. I'm thinking laying down some 1.5 oz. CSM in these areas (as most of existing glass appears to be woven mat) then 1-2 layers of 1708 for strength before I bed my stringers.

like this cool hole I decided to open up!

Re: 1979 Imperial

Check out oops response to PMC's transom work. He addresses most of what you've asked ^^ and describes the repair the same as you did.. except to alternate a couple CSM w a couple 1708....

Hi patrick.....

EDIT: DELETED A BIT TO SHORTEN IT...

Wrap it just like you would if you cut the entire glass skin of the transom off !!!!!

4 layers of alternating csm/1708 sandwiches.
The csm wraps should go around the bottom of the hull.....so you will have to do some fairing on the bottom side so you wont have a little hook right before the transom on the plaining surface.

Sleep peacefully my good friend...

It is going as it should !

Gonna replay vid one now for more questions.

Cuda,

I was checking your AGP (after grinding Pics) and am convinced you just glassed a new hull together...that is clean....I think I may need to go back in on mine and take another look....Good job bro.

I will have some holes in mine when I get finished, that one spot is super thin.

Thoughts I'm having....

If I apply resin to the woven mat in this pic, (started to lift while grinding) well it cure like normal glass? Can I glass over it?

If I were to repair this hole today, I would attack it thusly... I need to know if my method of madness is acceptable?

1. Apply structural peanut butter, so no sharp angles exist, let cure...

2. Apply CSM to the area

3. Add one layer of 1708 so the tabs extend 2" on each side.

4. Finish with 1708 so tabs extend 4" on each side... ( or do I always need CSM between layers of 1708? )

Yep, CSM Always between 1708 even though is has the CSM stitched to it. Your patch method is sound except for a bit of sanding and wash down with acetone.

Morning boss!

Ooops forgot the sanding and acetone wash... 80 grit work okay?

So for everything always layer of CSM between 1708???? I can't layup two layers of 1708 w/o CSM between? I'm just getting my ducks in a row...

Re: 1979 Imperial

80 Grit is fine. Not saying you Can't just saying acceptable practice is to always use a layer of CSM between. The Pros always lay CSM and then the cloth whether it has CSM backing or not. Now the 1708 was made so it was "One Stop Shopping but.... Two layers of CSM between layers of Cloth seems to always workout better.

Understood... I'll be using the pro method.... Thanks again my friend!

Re: 1979 Imperial

I have a small dilemma..

I don't have any room in my house to store 4 x 8 ply laying flat... I need the space in my garage to work on the boat. My only alternative is in my small dining room standing horizontal length wise against a wall... I'm worried about warpage... Any ideas?

I kept my ply flat in the bed of my truck (has a cover) and cut what I needed and then put it back ..... didn't warp.

Re: 1979 Imperial

Hey Gang!

Big day today...

I bought my wood for the build!

I went with 4 sheets Araucoply 3/4" for transom, bulkheads and stringers, and 3 sheets 1/2" Araucoply for decks, and other vertical framework. The decks will have one layer 1.5 oz CSM on the bottoms, and at least two layers of 1.5 oz CSM, and I'm considering a single layer of woven also????? Would this give the 1/2" deck some additional strength? How about 1708?

Great tips on the vertical storage with 2x2's clamped to keep the plywood from bowing!

And my sheet of cdx 3/4" I'll use for my work table was warped big-time! So I'm laying it on 6 - 2x2's with various batteries topside in hopes of straightening it out....

Next is to place my order for glassin supplies! Hurry up taxman!
