If the weather keeps up the way it is we could be in for an early splash so I better be getting things done.

Re: 1986 ss 201

Glen, Looking at your project always gives me the insentive to work on my boat. I would like to ask you a question about the spar varnish you coated your decks with. I've cut my decks out of marine grade fir and need to coat them. The only product I have ben able to find is Minwax Spar Urethane. Is this the same product that you use. I need to update my own thread and show everyone that I have been working on my boat. Thanks, Brian

Hey Brian thanks for stopping by, and the kind words. I just did a Google search and it turns out Minwax makes Helmsman Spar, so have at her.

Gonna be a beauty, DII. Were you planning on painting the topsides? I remember the hull sides came back to life and if I remember, you mentioned painting the top sides, way back there some where......

Glen, once you finish that beauty, I have the perfect place to store it. Leave the keys and I'll run it every now and then.

You can drop it off on your way picking up the next project.

Wow nice work.

Thanks GA, ya I'm going to have to paint the topsides. I am just going to finish off the bow deck instal so I can rivet the inner aluminum gunwals back in then I'm ready for prep and paint.

Nice Job again there man! Rock n' and Rollin'!!! It really is great to see it coming together... this to me is the most enjoyable part --- all of the "foundation" work is more or less done and it is the finishing touches that turn it from old and tired to new and fresh!

Thanks Jim, I agree, seems like once you get the flooring down and start getting consuls and front decks in it gets real exiting..

No pictures cus they would be the same as yesterdays, but the bow deck is installed and riveted down, I also got the upper gunwal aluminum sides re-installed. The boat has now got covered up for a while the next thing to be done on it is sand , prep and paint the topside. I am planning on painting the trailer the same color, so I want to get it prepped and ready to paint at the same time.

This has turned into a little bigger project than origionally planned, If you remember from the first photos the SS came on a Spartan single axle trailer, I am not a fan of single axle trailers under big boats especially towed in a combination behind my fifth wheel.

It just so happens that the Dodge Motorhome project involved a brand new Dutchman tantem axle trailer, well part of the deal is those nice new axles with real nice five spoke aluminum wheels belong to me and are going to fit real nice under my Spartan trailer.

Photos to come.

Came apart including cutting off all the old spring hangers in about three hours. I'm planning on making the the new tandem on two slides with pinch bolts similar to an ezloader so I have a little bit of adjustment for tongue weight.

Should be a good foundation to park the SS on Dozer. Silly question - Why is the tongue rusted and the frame isn't judging by the paint on the frame?

It was in pretty good shape other than the latex house paint that had been rolled on!

I replaced the tongue last fall, the end were the ball reciever was bolted on was all crushed and cracked.

Thanks Jim, no winter here, been very warm for the last two weeks, unseasonalby. If it keeps up we will be in for a very early spring. I sure don't want the soft water to come and not be ready.lol
