LOL Yeah, it's a new console. I picked it up for $50 , so I couldn't let it pass by. I like the one my dad build because it leaves alot of space to fish, but the new one is just awsome. What do you guys think? Which one should I use?

Here's another goodie that I picked up today for 150 bucks.

NO, not the dryer :p.

It's a 62 gallon below the deck aluminum fuel tank. It weighs like 10 pounds!

LOL Doc thats empty :D full it will be closer to 506 pounds :D still nice find and I agree with Dad but didnt want to hurt his feelings after he put all that work into the home made CC. The big one looks like it still leaves enough room to get around it.

These guys were moving shop and didn't want to take it with them, so he let it go for 50 bucks. They actually had another one, but it was way bigger and wouldn't fit my boat. They wanted 50 bucks for that one too.

Re: 22' 1968 Starcraft Islander

I decided to do a little more cutting due to the center console being too big.

The center console greatly reduced the space in the bow area. With that piece cut out, we increased the deck space by about 2 1/2 feet.

What do you guys think? Was that a good move?

Doc starting to look more like an actual Starcraft Center console everyday . The added cut is fine most openbow Starcrafts are cut up at least that far .

Re: 22' 1968 Starcraft Islander

Evildoc the great thing about the way starcraft built these boats is that they have so much structure that cutting out some aluminum isn't a dealbreaker for structural integrity in my opinion.

My buddy and I both agreed that he should do the same to his 14' closed bow runabout when pretty much everyone else claimed it would compromise the hull...and it's worked out very well. He cut the port side console out as well so it's like a mini bass boat and the bow cap is still strong enough to stand on and the boat still handles like an aquatic aluminum tank(it's a 1967 Cadillac Riviera).

If you want you could throw some reinforcement under the bow cap but should be fine either way...she's looking, good can't wait to see the console in.

Thank you so much for the encouragement. I was worried it would debilitate the integritey of the hull. I feel more confident now about cutting the rest of it out. Thanks again.

Evildoc what else are you talking about cutting out? Did you stop halfway when cutting that bow area out?

It looks like you left enough bow cap to mount lights, anchor chocks, cleats and maybe a spotlight so it looks perfect to me I wouldn't cut more than where you're at now.

This is what the boat looks like all cut up. It looks really big without anything in there. The sanding began, but it's really hard to get around the rivits.

Doc it you are just sanding her to get a good bite for new paint and not completely removing the old paint then dont worry so much about getting around the rivets just buzz over them.
