Jigngrub, I noticed you used nautolex no 88 for your adhesive when putting your vinyldown. were you pleased with how it worked and will it work for carpet also? I would be estatic if mine came out half as nice as yours!

If you're worried about the glue stickin' to the aluminum get a couple spray cans of aluminum primer and put a primer coat on it first.

If you want a carpet/vinyl job that looks good and lasts, invest in some carpet rollers like these:

They embed the carpet/vinyl backing into the glue and eliminate air bubbles and loose spots. These tools take the place of the big 150 lb. roller that all carpet and vinyl adhesives call for.

To tell the truth, I wasn't really that impressed with it for the price. It did a good job and was fairly easy to work with, but it's a latex/water base adhesive just like most of the other outdoor flooring adhesives. I think the main advantage of the 88 over the other adhesives is that it's a brush on instead of trowel on adhesive which makes it quite a bit easier to apply.

Thanks for the compliment.

Just take your time and don't try to rush or hurry through your deck finish job and it will look great.

I dont wanna veer off the path of my carpet and vinyl topics, but i did manage to finish my front compartments yesterday before my sons baseball game. My buddy came through for me with some old road signs, strong and light!
Flotation installed

alum cut and anchored down. (both pics are of port side. just different angles

Gotta finish cutting the front deck, then on to the hatches. Speaking of which, how much of a gap do you guys think there should be where you cut your hatches out, so they can be covered, yet close easily/firmly? Using vinyl in these areas.

front piece of deck cut to size ( I have to admit, this took me awhile and seversl trimmings)

IMAG0458.jpg

Still have to layout and cut for access to storage. Oh and btw, dont ever buy any lumber fron home depot! What a joke it is! Im going to really have to seal up this last sheet i bought, its nowhere near the quality of menards 3/4 ext plywood!
I hope to have pics later of hatches cut out if there is time before my boys baseball game tonight!

Decks are painted, carpet is here, Picked up the nautalex on fri, and the adhesive today. Im kinda far into it to be doing demo work, but I found more of that old white styrofoam in the gunwales ( which is really hard to get out) The port side took the longest, being that it had some sort of glue in it, which melted the foam!
IMAG0484.jpg

The starboard side wasnt as bad, and it was glue free:confused: It didnt break my heart to not find any glue in there!
IMAG0483.jpg

I ended up filling a empty noodle box up with all of the foam chunks, plus what ever i sucked up with the shop vac!
After all of that mess, i began the remove the old plywood out of gunwale process, which wasnt too bad with a sawzall and a bad attitude! Port side removed and replaced it with 10' of timber tek 3/4" plank, so i have some meat to anchor the sides of my windshield, rod holders and possibly a downrigger in the future! Its a little heavier than 3/4" ply, but itll never have to be replaced, and i got 2 12' pieces for $20 total at home depot. Hoping to get the starboard wood removed and replaced tomorrow and get started on my vinyl application (which im a little nervouse of for some reason).

Re: 22' bluefin rebuild with some pics

Well, one panel has a vinyl wrap on it! I was a little apprehensive, but i think it will be okay. It was a little tough getting my adhesive on( i kept thinking i was doing something wrong) Im thinking about spraying it on with a paint gun next time, but not sure on what to use to clean the gun out! Has anybody ever tried doing it this way?
Not sure how much the pics will show, but i think it turned out ok so far

Your vinyl looks great Bucky!

That plastic gunwale wood should last a while.

Thanks, it is in there pretty solid, i think it will be good!
I needed alum angle for some meat to anchor my interior sides to, so i broke out the saw, glasses and earplugs and chewed a few pieces off of this 4 1/2" square tube! I like cheap material:D
IMAG0516.jpg

Now i need to figure out where to install my controls so they are comfortable and since these showed up in the mail, i better start thinking about building some consoles!

Re: 22' bluefin rebuild with some pics

well im new at this, so im doing ALOT of this bass akwards! pulled the interior and exterior rub rails off to clean up the gunwales for covering. I intially wanted to just paint it, but then thought i might have enough nautelex to cover it.......well not so much! Seems i forgot about a big section i need to cover up with it, so im planning on covering it with some of my extra carpet! I think it will look alright with the carpet on it, just have to keep the walleye and perch off of it:D
Pic of gunwale with all of the bondo and paint grinded off

nautelex sample on gunwale before realizing it isnt gonna happen:facepalm:

Took awhile, but the hatches have been wrapped and installed! Got some hatch handles from iboats for less than $2 a piece, so was happy about that! Also found a good deal on some stainless and alum piano hinges at a army navy surplus store!
prior to today

current ( had to pull the boat out of the shed. I figured if i was going to sweat my ace off, i might as well get a sunburn too!

I know your wondering where all of the crap is thats usually laying all over my boat when i take pics! Well........
