I think you are going to be ok on this one. I know it's a scary feeling to see all of this. I have my own nightmares.
Just keep working and you will be done soon.

Troop,
Was there fuel or oily gunk under the tank when you removed it? If so this could have leached into the glass and caused this problem. Just a thought. But hey, what do I know, I'm just a

Trooper, I was looking and thinking about the delam in the pics. Did you notice if there was any csm between the woven roven layers when you where grinding. The woven roven has to have a layer of csm between them and be laided up wet on wet for it to bond correctly.
This could be the cause of the delam. It looks like there is csm just under the white color but from there I can't tell.
Maybe YD or OOPS could tell from the pics.
Have a good day.

Wood the tank area was fairly clean...the bilge was coated in oil though...

Ya Decker, it does look like there is something...maybe CSM between the roving layers..that is what is failing..I'll find one of the chunks and make a little vid so you all can see how it is doing...

Under the ski locker....

Before...
DSC01350.jpg

During...you can see the cracks line up with the material used for the filling....turns out this is the same stuff I saw from the inside...looked like resin, but odd color...and no glass in it!
DSC01351.jpg

I offer as proof...a hole through to the ski locker, lol.knew it would happen sooner or later...I had some close calls, but no through hull...Now I am a card carrying member..hahaha
DSC01352.jpg

this glass looks like the other spot...looks loose...but it actually isn't, or did not seem to be when I ran a gloved hand over it...no snags...
DSC01353.jpg

I made this ground out area big, thinking I will need this much space for strength when I glass it back in...this is big enough? I may just slap some CSM on now to keep it dry till I get my next round of Mekp..should have enough to actualy fix this area if you all think I am good to go from here...

Thanks for the help....

Happy Hump Day!!

Well.....I did a little more grinding...found a little bit of flaking, but not near as bad as that first section...
DSC01354.jpg

Made me a clear template...figured three layers...each consisting of 2 each 1.5oz CSM and 1 each 1708..(ya wood I know you said 2 of the 1708...but to be honest I forgot till it was too late :))
DSC01355.jpg

I think it came out fairly close...
DSC01356.jpg

Even from this direction...
DSC01357.jpg

I started with 500ml resin...then another 400ml...barely, and I mean barely had enough mekp for those two....got it all down and it has been kicking very slow...took the heat gun to it...we'll see how it goes...will check it again in an hour or so...

Had to use styrene to soften the glass....DO NOT get that stuff on your skin!!!

Patch work looks just about perfect. Just a scuff & some fairing filler, it'll be looking real good.

Great to see someone HANDLING the glassing challenges as they come up. You & SP are getting it down. Well done;)

Lots of the tin folk fanning the flames lately as another glasser gets towed to the dump.

RIP JL II

Congrats on getting over the hump!

Thank you JB, I was a little worried when I had to use the very last of the mekp...need to run out and see if it has kicked yet.

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Yeah, I figured you be good. As long as it's about 1% and you've laid up wet on wet, the underlying heat & resin kicking should help kick the final layup;) Even when you dip down to barely 1/2%.

Someone mis-calculated & only used 1/2% on a wet on wet multi-layer layup & the resin rep told him to mix a small bath @ 2% & get it down QUICK. Kicked & worked out just fine.
