Nice to finally meet another Venture owner! Doesn't seem to be too many floating around these days. You had wood between the stringers? Or are you talking about the 2 strips of wood laid down and glassed over underneath the flotation foam? These?

Okay I read your thread and saw what you are talking about. Never even though about wood being under there. I'll drill in the morning. I actually appreciate you throwing a monkey wrench into the gears. Thanks wolf

yep. good to see another on here. there is actually quite a few around when you really get to know what they look like as far as the hull lines. my old gurl will move on pretty good with my 120 rude, around 45-50 if you get the trim in the sweet spot. it took me a bit to get that dam ironing board cut out and I ground a bit too far in a few spot but its all good now. ill be watching yer progress.

I finally found it this morning. It's in fairly good shapes but it does have rotten spots in it so I am going to completely replace it. Went to Lowe's and got my transom wood and my Titebond 3 wood glue. Gonna use 1-1/4 inch sheetrock screws to tighten the 2 pieces down so the glue bonds and spreads really well. I also got some fiberglass working tools while I was at in anticipation lol I picked up some bondo spreaders to work my peanut butter with

1.5 bottle of Titebond 3 Wood Glue 1/2 lb of 1-1/4 inch Sheetrock Screws 2 Pieces of 23/32 BC Sanded Plywood cut to the shape of my transom Adding the glue I spread the glue out with a notches trowel Allowed it to sit for a few minutes and then put the two halves together and screwed it together

Took longer to to come up with the template than it did to cut the transom. I need to do a little sanding on it and she'll be ready for glass

Don't forget to round over the edges. Are you gunna drill some 1" holes to help prevent air pockets and give you a mechanical bond when you install it??

I hadn't planned on it. I still gotta drill my motor mounting holes and spashwell drain out. But I did plan on rounded the edges a little. My brother has a router with a round over bit

Moving the Venture to my brothers shop in the next week or so. He said he didn't mind as long as I locked up behind myself. Pictures and maybe video to follow

My dad came home yesterday tellin me that my motor was about to fall off of my stand so I rushed to my brothers shop. I got there and the 2x4s were slightly bowed but nowhere near a breaking point. But it got me and my brother to talking me. He's fine with me using the shop so long as he can move the boat out in case he needs that side of she shop. Not all that enthused about the idea of him moving my boat around but maybe he won't need to. He had the grass cut when I got there to check on my motor

Good plans for both a motor stand and a moveable dolly for your hull in the forum...
either somebody will pop by with the links or you could search for them...

My stand I built before the cap removal. I'm gonna lift the motor and move my angled 2x4s up to the top of the 2x6s so the uprights don't bow. The stand is holding and not likely to break but as of right now it's not being moved around

Just had me a good laugh. My neighbor stopped by and was checking my out project and tellin me all about his first boat restoration. I've never seen this man with a boat and I've lives next to him since I was born. He asked if I had prices any resin and cloth and I told him I had found the resin for 25 dollars a gallon. He told me it won't be too expensive that 2 gallons will do what I need. Just not sure what to think about that statement lol

I am hoping to get it done with 10 gallons. Every tells me that is way too much but I have more sense than to think I can redo the stringers, transom, and deck with 2 gallons of resin. I will more than likely use 2 gallons up just making my peanut butter for my fillets.

Those must be air filled tires if you can roll it onto the grass. Was it used just as a means to hold the hull during paint or during the entire restoration and rebuild? The reason I am asking is because my trailer needs painted as well, plus new bunks and carpet work. My cradle may at some point have to hold my completed boat, including the motor.

I was considering a 6' x 12' cradle made up up of 2 x 6's. Each 2 x 6 mated together with lag bolts. I found some 700lb. casters at Tractor Supply and it set the wheels to turning in my head. Excuse the unintended pun. It would have 4 adjustable 2 x 4 bunks fastened to the cradle with lag bolts. Each bunk mirroring those on the trailer. We have some old carpet that can be cut to size and stapled to the cradle bunks.

Yep pneumatic casters from HarborFreight. work Great!!! $15 bucks Each. They will support the entire boat Motor Too!!! You'll use 2 gallons of resin just installing the Transom. Stringers will take 2-3 and the deck another 5.
