If that is coming from the bearing and not your hand rubbing the bellows it doesn't sound right.

How old is the gas in your tank currently?

One other point. Check the book and use the recommended grade of gas. My 1987 3.0L Alpha One was a slow starter when new - until I read the book and switched from regular to the recommended mid-grade. The difference was stunning. Every fall I go a little better and fill the tank with a mix of high test and mid grade and a can of fuel stabilizer, run it for a bit so everything gets in the fuel lines and carb. Never had a problem starting in the spring.

Its only if i spin it fast.. other wise it smooth and free.. like as if one of the balls in the bearing is a loose ?? Idk i checked videos online and when its bad it makes a loud grinding roaring sound . Mine doesnt

I sucked out all the gas put 4 gallons of 91 grade and couple ounces of Seafoam.. im praying that it fixes the engine issue

Using a higher octane fuel will have nothing to do with making the engine start easier.

How level is your boat? On mine it was parked at a slant and the tank was low....freaking boat wouldn't start.....I was about to drive myself crazy when I realized I was to low on fuel!!

If you have to question the bearing....just replace it

The bearing is cheap. There is a local shop here that charged me $65 for one and that included install. I just had to remove the drive myself.

It's sucks buying the tools yes But if you plan on diagnosing your own problems and servicing your boat you need them it's money well spent..

Change all the bellows, change the shift cable, change the gimbal bearing....re install everything and worry about your running issue.

That bearing doesn't sound "good". While you do the bellows you might as well replace the shift cable. Boats are not just about keeping an eye on things, it is about preventative maintenance. It is not like a car where you can pull off to the side of the road.

Idk it just seems like waste of money..i dont plan on keeping it more than 1 to 2 years

So why even come on here and ask for people's advise or for help if you're just going to ignore it and do it the way you want to anyways?

I guess we aren't there and can't see condition. If the u joint bellows looks good leave it. It's your boat.
