Yeah Skargo, we made it out! I had the radio on listening for you but didn't hear anything. (New top priority, get the fixed mount and antenna installed!) We rode right past Cara Cove and I looked for you but didn't see you in there. Probably passed through the area around 5pm or so.

We left later than I thought that we would, my parents didn't get down as early as they said. So we didn't leave the dock until 4:45. I checked the weather one last time and we headed off. (40% chance of scattered showers but the sky looked clear)

The bay was so flat it was wonderful! We had a great cruise down to Georgetown and to the Granary Restaurant. They closed the Sassafras Grill early so we ate upstarirs in the Restaurant. Beautiful view and great food! Highly recommended!

Hey Arks, you weren't eating at the Grill around 6 were you, I thought I saw someone that looked like you but I couldn't quite tell. I didn't see your boat anywhere either so I figured it wasn't you. How did the slip and boat maintenace go?

So we were eating our dinner and really enjoying it when all of the sudden, out of nowhere, it started pouring down raining and then the electric went out! Our waitress told us that there were reports of a tornado touching down in Cecil County (Haven't confirmed this yet) We missed all the reports on the radio because we were eating at the time of the broadcasts!

Waited the storm out and dried off the soaking wet boat and had a absolutely beautiful ride back to North East! The bay was almost like glass and there were no other boats out there! Wonder why? We even passed a huge cargo ship coming down the bay out of the C & D canal. It was really neat to see so close! Forgot the camera though I have been really close to these in the St. Lawerence Seaway before and i know that these guys can throw off a huge wake. I was surprised that his wake was no worse than a big cabin cruiser. (Especially when I saw the bow wave he was pushing!)

All and all it was a great evening and everything went pretty well besides having a wet boat.

Sorry we missed you Skargo, was hoping to meet up with you again, maybe next time. Glad that you dodged out the storm and made it back safely as well.

i just got my handheld vhf radio. I was driving in darlington sunday and I heard the coast guard on my radio saying someone was in trouble on the NE river. Maybe around 1:30.

Bowman, the handheld radio is great. I can always get the Coast Guard out of Baltimore. Keeps me informed of what is going on out on the bay.

However, it has limited range on the water between boats. (Somewhere around 5 miles max depending on terrian.) I bought it because I wanted a VHF and didn't want to spend all the mony for a fixed mount right away. I have sinced purchased the fixed mount and antenna just need to install them. I also knew that finding the time to install would be hard, schedule seems to be crazy this summer!

I will keep the Handheld as a backup to the fixed mount with an adapter to plug into my fixed mount antenna. (I have the Icom M72 with removable antenna) Redundancy is a good thing!

We anchored at Carrot(Cara) at right around 4:45, our paths must have crossed!

I heard there was a capsized boat yesterday around 5pm in the Gunpowder, haven't heard anything else.

Besides the storm, the water was glass. It surely wasn't when we were trying to get into Tydings Whitecaps everywhere!

Go figure, so close but so far! By the time you anchored and tried to hail us we were probably in the Sassafras River and out of range on the handheld.

Hadn't heard about Gunpowder yet, hope everyone is ok!

Also, way to go on helping out the other boater in the face of a storm coming in. You did the right thing!

I installed my new antenna, and had to move my radio to the helm, which I like better than it being down in the cabin. I just hope I did a good job soldering so that I transmit well.

Glad you guys didn't get caught out on the open water when the weather hit- it's definately no fun.
Do NOT ask me how I know....

Skargo- you did the right thing by seeking "safe harbor".
This invites the question: "What do you do if you're on the water, see a bad storm coming and don't have time to make it to a safe place?"

Nope. I left HdG about 5PM (it was just too HOT!), went back home and had dinner with the family.
"Signals" is a good place to have a nice dinner. I took my wife there for our anniversary a while back (when it had a different name).

How did the slip and boat maintenace go?

Very well thank you. Got all the raw water strainers cleaned and checked fluids in the batteries, trannys and engines. The marina management has asked everyone to "spruce up" our slips so I removed an old satellite dish I hadn't used since last year.

I was looking for you guys Rob, I bet some people think I'm casing pier 6 sometimes LOL.
I saw Al Friday, so figured he'd be around this weekend. I have something for him. He was nowhere to be seen the rest of the weekend. We even drove down for some seafood Saturday afternoon.

I just bought the Chapman Piloting and Seamanship, came in handy I reckon, especially cutting into the Tydings channel and we had a good list going, of course putting poor terrified Stacey on the low side. Bennet tabs help immensely in that situation, but I forgot I had one fully down and one up when we left LOL. I need the indicator switch for them I think.

I think we all need to try and plan a dinner get together somewhere before this glorious summer is over.

Had a great day on the water today, beautiful weather and some really calm water, look at the water at Turkey point!

That's Buttonwood Beach. It's an upscale 'campground' directly across from Elk Neck SP's boat ramp.
We had friends that used to have a place there- until the divorce....
It's a pretty nice place as I recall.

i was out there from noon to 8 sunday. i launched at the hdg kayak ramp, and went down to the sasarfas river. used 6 gallons each way, which is the max range for my boat. think it was 44 miles round trip.

i tried hailing winter dream on channel 9. stopped at the sand islands too.

I was onboard at the slip but didn't feel well. Think it was something I ate. I intended to take a cruise but just wasn't up for it. Didn't even turn the VHF on- which is rare for me.
