Ok Mead experts, name some good beach camping coves at Mead. Looking for good beaching site for the boat, good place to toss the tent, that sort of stuff.

As always, QC posted some great info, but depending on where you will be launching from and what kind of boat you have will make a lot of difference on where you can go..or should go.

If your boat is small with limited range you will need to think safety and stay close to a marina because Mead can whip up fast. I've come across people who have been stranded for 2 days with their boat broken down in some obscure cove. Not trying to scare you off by any means, just letting you know in case you aren't familiar with the lake.

What an awesome 3 days even though it was a working weekend. Topped it off with a 9ers win!

The lake is up, just not going up as fast as they predicted since this winter has been drier than predicted.

From campsite 53 and higher ,these camping circles are closed off all yr except for major holidays and such.If they need them.
Between 20 and 23 is a nice mtn bike trail that goes up to the water towers thats fun to coast down.As for the campsite # in picture its still unclaimed.Look carefully at background.It gives away position to within a few numbers.Notice trail going up mtn.

I really want to go and get a close up on the temple.Not far from there they did a show on those astroid hunters.I know its against the law to search there.Just imagine though camping on the beach and that thing blowing across the sky right in front of you.Little pieces falling into the river,what a site, i hope someone saw it.I bought a piece of it on ebay though,expensive.

This is one of the best close-up pics of the Temple I've ever seen. Taken last year by our friends who's houseboat burned down at Calville a couple of years ago. Their burned down HB was one of the first if not THE first pic in the WTH is this game:

I don't know exactly how tall it is but I would guess a couple hundred feet from full pool.

Because it's so majestic, it's not only a photo magnet but it attracts people to float around it and climb it - not from the front side though because I'm sure that's illegal. I don't think you could climb it from the front anyway because it's just sedimentary deposits and clay that's too loose to get a good hold. I met campers at T Bar who climbed it from the backside and one of the guys got bit on the hand by a rattler and had to be air lifted into Henderson. Climbing the back side really isn't that difficult. Some climb up there with their woods and tee off. Someone climbed up last year and put a cross up there when his son died but the park service must have removed it.

Only had the new to us boat out once and it was a launch from Temple Bar. What a great part of the lake, without even knowing the other parts. I'll put some pics in a link to photobucket. We dropped anchor on the north side of the temple for a night and it was very peaceful.

Thanks 12V...Hope to see you and QC, jjacobs007 and others out there this spring. Will have 1 to 4 Grand-kids along next time. We are not as hardy as we were as kids growing up in Nebraska....dang it's cold out tonight!
