Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada
Thanks for the info. I will deal with the weather and the water, I'm looking for good beach sites without spending two days to find a spot. We camped for 3 days on Mohave beach about 7 miles south of Cottonwood Cove and went up north to willow point, it was pretty rough but thats the fun, who wants to boat in a swimming pool? Then another 3 days on Havasu north of Cattail on a great beach spot (34 21.714 x 114 11.711 Google Earth). havasu was dead calm and it was Thur-Sat so no crowds. Mohave had a 2 flag warning at the ranger station but it was still a great 3 days. I've been on Powell many times but only camped once and and I thought I was in a betty boop baker oven, wholy cow, July was a bad idea.
As always, QC posted some great info, but depending on where you will be launching from and what kind of boat you have will make a lot of difference on where you can go..or should go.
If your boat is small with limited range you will need to think safety and stay close to a marina because Mead can whip up fast. I've come across people who have been stranded for 2 days with their boat broken down in some obscure cove. Not trying to scare you off by any means, just letting you know in case you aren't familiar with the lake.
