Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

My first trip to Temple Bar was in July '85 by water; 2nd Houseboat trip for us. We put out at Echo in those days. Made a run to TB for beer late in the afternoon from Gypsum Reefs. Whacked a prop on the way back in the dark  I pulled naked skiers around the Mushroom the next afternoon. No clothes, no observer, the bad 'ole days

Alright QC,Pullin naked skiers around, didnt know ya had it in ya.
Sounds like you have many more stories after all that time on water.
I too usto go every weekend and wouldnt miss it for the world, and now sometimes i find myself inside my truck all ready to go with motor runnin and decide to go back inside and stay home.unpacking later, just in case i change my mind.LOL

I was poking around on Google Earth and found something kind of cool. Scroll in-out between 50-70 miles altitude and you can see the difference between almost full pool and where it was last summer. Pretty strange to see how much things have changed at a mouse click. I used to go out of Government Wash in the early 90's and there was a LOT lake back then. One of my friends took me out on his boat last year and we fished that same area and I couldn't believe how narrow it was up in that area, must have been 15 years since I was there last. Same thing with The Virgin arm, it's a whole different lake. I took my kids fishing/swimming several times up there this summer and was discovering things I hadn't seen before. We were anchored up in a nice protected cove just east of Ramshead Island,,, years ago it would be a really vulnerable spot with it's exposure to both the north and south basins.

I guess even Golden Shores (Topock I40 Bridge) has a little of that feel too. So again, something for everybody at Havasu, just different dose levels.

I loved that place! I can't believe they tore it down just to build a 'bigger and better' hotel. My favorite was the BBQ-your-own steak on Sat nights where they supplied everything and you hung out on the upper deck sippin and BBQ-ing away, enjoying the evening.

I had been going there since I first went to Mead in '78. We were heading to the river, looking for a good place to party and my friend's older sister told us to go to a place called The Sundance Saloon. I had only been to the Blythe area, so we just didn't know where it was, so we started at what we figured was the most logical place to start - Mead - then work our way down.. We spent 2 glorious weeks on the hunt till we found her and had a lot of good times that summer, and ever since. Sundance became legendary on the Parker strip, as did Rock Palace, Foxes, Badenoch's and of course my personal favorite, The Roadrunner. You could do a nice early ski, then pull up to the dock and have a great breakfast then head back out on the water.

Funny, I started at Mead to find a place down river and ended up down river looking for a place like Mead.:D

I spent this last weekend at T-Bar putting in new flooring. Looks awesome and we're ready to start another season

Pray for snow!

hi; thought you guys evaporated with the falling lake level.

if you get out to the lake and the water temp breaks 63* please let me know.

we have had more snow here in the yampa valley, in the last couple of weeks than most of the rest of winter. still have't got much though. march and april can be heavy snow months if we get in the pine apple express weather pattern.

I WANT TO GO TO THE LAKE

I WANT TO GO TO THE LAKE

That dog is ready for the lake. My Oldest Grandson let us know when he is off for spring break, so I am planning a few week days off for April and we will hit TB for a few days then. Can't wait. I will make it a point to take pics of weird things for the guessing game.

Here's the latest water temp info as of today:

LATEST LAKE INFORMATION

Looks like there's a ways to go!

I'll be heading out to T-Bar in 2 weeks to install a kitchen in one of the trailers in the village. No water time yet, just work weekends!

Re: calling all lake mead boaters! nevada

Almost daily, I get tired of the 60 mile each way commute, tired of working at a job and wish I could just be a lake bum. I probably have enough saved to pay cash for a decent shack in Meadview. I'm starting to get flashbacks of the dropout hippies from the 70's that I saw on the news as a kid. Is all of the expense in living to work worth the costs? Just sayin'. Want to have a little fun, peace and quiet in my last 10-25 years (WAG Method).

Has anyone here done this AT LAKE MEAD? I knew an estimator from work 25 years ago that lived on his houseboat at Lake Pleasant, AZ. and he loved it.

A small town with a part time job to pay utilities and buy groceries doesn't sound too bad about now.

I have 2 1-acre lots at Meadview so I follow the pricing fluctuations and I also know a few people that live there most of the year. The prices have come way down and you can get something pretty decent for around 100k. You are 10-20mi or so from the lake depending on where you are in Meadview, and Pierce Ferry is right up the road as well.

There are always openings for maintenance and dock guys at the marinas at the beginning of the season. We used to have a good guy, Bill, who would roam around doing misc repairs and whatever for the trailer village at T-Bar.

We were houseboating about 20 years ago up the Overton Arm and went into Echo to try to borrow someone's car to drive into Overton for a part. One of the newer guys at the gas dock who had never met us before loaned us his. You could tell he was living in it - a station wagon with sleeping quarters, candles, clothes, etc. So we filled up his tank and gave him a few bucks.

So, in short - do you have a station wagon? :D

Let me know if you see any 2000 sq foot houseboats for less than 75K. Couldn't talk the wife into the station wagon idea. She's not a fan of the back of the truck. I even used the sales pitch of the existing bedslide to make cleaning the house easier.

Hey that weekender works for me!

The Echo to T-Bar trip would be a great little adventure! Depending on your time frame I would go the 'long way' and do a couple days weather permitting on the shores of the Virgin Basin and then past T-Bar on and swing back around. You could make this a month long adventure pretty easily!
