today marked the beginning of "grass cutting season". With a 20" push mower, I managed to get half of my 12 acres cut before having to quit (got your attention!! :lol:, left out the slash mark, only 1/2 acre lol). But that's the main reason for doing this now; 20 minutes of pushing and I need to stop or I'll be paying for it later.

After a rest, fit the two pieces for deck to transom. They're just laying there for pic; you'll see later how that all goes in

redesign on mixing blade; fell asleep laying in the driveway while installing the Garboard!!! figured I'd call it a day. A friend stopped by and gave me that 3/4 horse bench grinder, mount it somewhere tomorrow. It's old, runs great!! has a good rock and brush, should last a good while. Looking like Wednesday morning to pour Seacast...... fingers crossed etc [/URL]

You might better test the mixer with some drywall mud or something ... Not saying it won't work well but with the money you have spent on the seacast it needs to be mixed properly /completely ... A paddle made for the job is about 5 or 10 bucks at home depot .. Your gunna want to scrape the sides of the bucket really well with the paddle to get all the smurf mixed with the hardener and fibers ... JMHO ....
Make sure ya have a rubber mallet on hand ...

yeah, got two cords of wood stacked beside where I wuz sleeping!
my head is either rubber or wood - stuff bounces off or doesn't penetrate! I tested the other with water; even on low, slung it everywhere. Haven't tried this one yet; just figured it would spin faster w/o slinging.
Made first one for something to do, this one also (and it's not like I don't have enough to do already :facepalm: ) Also have access to a large drill motor, just found out tonight. Most likely buy a blade just in case.
This one should scrape some... but can still modify it to scrape. Thanks!!

Am acquiring some really old two part floatation foam tomorrow; have to test that also

and so what, have some cleanup to do - comes with the territory... Even with a pilot hole, had to use vise grips on a phillips head screwdriver to install Garboard. 5200 on threads seemed to lubricate some, might should have tapped holes first. That fiberglass is almost hard as steel[/URL]


you can see port side bunk is shot; at least the last foot of

white spot under black line is plastic plugging drain tube for Garboard. Taped cardboard over main gusset to contain Seacast - the mistake I made was taking a break - in the time it took to down a soda, it set hard and couldn't cap it.... oh well, do it later when I finish capping the transom etc.

Congratulations ! Ya got a transom for life .... Did ya use all the fibers in the mix ?
Clean her up and get it all capped off and start putting things back together !

been thinking about that; the reason they say "it'll be the last one..........." is because you'll never want to do another one!!! :lol::lol: JK, it was relatively easy, except for the mixing - took awhile and that stuff IS STIFF!!!!!
Just went out to check it, but not real good - it's already cool and unbelievably hard, solid etc etc etc.
Been ready to get on with other details, but dang!! have to see how I feel tomorrow? lol
Yes, all fibers and almost had some extra (nature's fibers). Wind was blowing those corn cob looking Oak seeds? everywhere!

smoked my POC harbor freight sander right off - could smell my Dewalt halfway through the first bucket. The 1/2" drill didn't have variable speed, but worked just fine. Grabbed this old Makita for the second bucket and did the job, no complaints. That little drill motor... what can I say, it's got some power!!
If I can do this job, most anybody can; but don't go thinking you can mix by hand!!!!

had added side pieces to mixing blade; worked really well. Had already made an arbor to fit drills before starting.
Doesn't look like the night shift did anything and my old butt slept better than I have in awhile; day shift hasn't called in yet..... but I feel good - good and tired!! :lol:[/URL]

I'm stuck in bed!! Not really tired, just mentally worn down... Don't be fooled, this was a lot of work even with some help; and "everything" was riding on the pour. Watching video after video helped, but there's nothing like doing it. Like riding a motorcycle, you can watch others do it, but.........

I guess it wasn't that much physical effort - other than wrestling with the drill - mostly anguishing over "did am I getting all the air out? tamping and tapping, etc"

I keep looking out the door to make sure I did it, but am afraid to get out there and start cleaning up!! :lol:

finally started moving and already taking a break :facepalm: Tap tested every square inch inside and out - all sounds the same, SOLID!!! Gunwales are tight!!
Seacast on pants scrapes off mostly, but.... not gonna wash 'em and risk buying a pump

Yep the worst part is mixing for the time they say ... It really gets to your back .... Other than that it's like making smurfberry pie .. :tongue1:
I do think just like everything the prep work is the key . You did a great job building the skins and doing all the time consuming stuff to have a successful pour ...:thumb:

what the fiddle is a smurfberry pie? :lol: never mind... lol It was a mess, spent a couple cleaning and have more to do on power chords etc. Other than that, did diddly squat - except to haul off some Hazmat etc to the scrapyard - they know me and will take what little I bring 'em.

Thanks! I appreciate you saying - my skills are not with fiberglass. Two things I would/should have done for sure -
1) made the mixing blade a foot longer; was standing near straight, but even six inches would have helped
2) and this could have also taken care of that - a base to keep the bucket from spinning; had someone to hold it, but would free them up while adding fiber

Since I have nothing to show for today... these are the backsides of boards I fit for decking. Remember, this is the old transom reinforcement board. And I have basically NO woodworking tools. Used circular saw to cut and grinder with a 1/4" rock to bevel

sand/paint bottom before install - 1/8th" csm and woven already on top. No point throwing it away, might as well use it.

been almost four months and not water ready yet. Going back through this thread is the only real memory I have of all that's been done. I just want to say, but lack the words, as to how invaluable a tool iboats has been. And it goes almost without saying, thanks for all the support - spoken or unspoken - it helps knowing that some are watching. Keeps me from cutting corners :facepalm: hey, I'm not perfect... but keeps my trying to do the best that I can. And if that isn't good enough, oh well.....

I am not trying to be Mr iboats here or anything else; it would be totally foolish to think my work is as good as others. And that doesn't devalue me as a human "bean"; nor make me "better than" in the reverse...

Seacast says this stuff is drillable and tappable? With what? a plasma cutter? lol Bout smoked a 1.25 hole saw!
Then Glass Guy came by to see how it was going. Tells me about a train creaming a garbage truck just outside his neighborhood - that there is a big pile of pretty good wood I might want (right next to his dad's place).

A p/u load of 2x4's, 2x12's, and 3/4" plywood etc. All 3 or 4 feet long, and all good dry wood with a few nails. AND THEN! lol he gave me an old but very usable tackle box. Not to be outdone, his dad GAVE me a 13x21 three blade SS Prop - came off of a 70 something 115 Johnson and fits mine Might need a rebush and some very very minor filing on one blade

yes it was!! And was so excited about the blade, had to leave before he changed his mind :lol: :facepalm::lol::lol::lol:

And didn't look it over real well until now, running late.... It doesn't have to be reworked, but will if it works out. My 100 had a 12.5x21p aluminum cut down to 11.75 over time; worked OK but...... Bought a 4 blade 14x17p last fall, and still haven't tried it. Came off a 2003 90h Rude
Propping is not a concern today; just things developing and stuff to consider....

as it is there, drain tube (1.25 od 1" id fiberglass pipe stops before outer skin). Will ream inside of hole forward of where pipe stops and PB all that - including outside of inner skin

sump box template just laying there for reference; pipe to be cut close to transom for angle to box. Going this route for drainage below deck should I ever need it. Most likely mount my transducer to hull inside the box. Probably wrap pipe with csm also

It's figured real close, but should drain every last drop with bow up just from thee trailer jack

PS: not that it matters because neither Glass Guy or I have ever done a transom; but we both agree that Seacast is the way to do a transom.

Can't remember where I got that pipe, but had used it to brace a "real" piece of crap lid I made :lol: and NO!! am not gonna show it, you'ld be laughing until your stomach hurt!!!

taking the battery out to change fuel filter won't be a problem.... could reroute fuel line and filter to starboard? I do want weight of battery on port. Livewell intake tube to be installed as WOG suggested - oversize hole filled with PB etc makes sense due risk of breakage. Not so with sump drain.

Livewell fill to 90* under back deck at opening. I have a plan for that opening also... not sure I could type an explanation!!! lol[/URL]
