Nice work Dez. I never saw a circle guide like that before. May have to invest in one.

Thanks Oldrem. They are nice.. Not too expensive. I think I will be using it on a few holes so money well spent!

Cut all my cloth (I think) that I will need to to my bilge and motor mounts tomorrow. 1 layer of 17oz biax and 1 layer of 10oz cloth on the bilge, minimum of 2 layers of each on the mounts. I hope that will be enough since I am also using eeeeeeepoxy?

More pics to come with the layups.

I would be concerned about the motor mount and driving a lag bolt between the layers like that.

If it’s predrilled and sealed up well should be ok ? Should it not?

That was the plan :( was going to oversize drill the holes, fill with epoxy pb then drill and drive the bolts in. With at least 4 layers of cloth wrapped around the mounts as well I wasn’t too concerned about opening up. Am I wrong?

Well another good day. Still moving in a forward motion. Got the bilge sanded and cleaned up. Laid 2 layers of cloth on the bilge up the sides and 4 layers on the mounts. They were a bugger. But I will clean them up and add 2 more layers along the stringers and around the mounts to tie them in.

Then on to the patterns for the back seating. I had a few photos for reference so that helped a lot. I got the 2 pieces cut that needed to go up against the transom. Took a while but I got it :) I left them long as I want to see how the doghouse sits on there and then I can start to close the front in. Then make the seat platforms. I still need to cut out the access holes for hoses, cables etc. but that can happen later. Plan is to build it all then coat with resin and cloth and install as one unit.

I put cross boards in just to hold them up and see that the spacing is right. They will come out later ;)

Thanks again all for visiting and sharing your input, ideas, advice, etc.

have the layers perpendicular to the lag screws.

So you would have stacked the plywood flat and not standing on end?
I still think if it’s pre drilled and in resin/ epoxy should hold up well especially with all the layers of cloth.

Thanks Reds... I understand now.

Looking good!
It should be alright but stacking them the other direction would be stronger, in this configuration the pressure from the screw is pushing the layers apart. If stacked the other way the screw is holding them together.

I agree with Scott on the orientation of the plywood in general but given what you've done your plan of oversizing and filling with epoxy is probably a good alternative. I'd spray the bolts with hairspray or something before sinking them into wet epoxy so you can someday get them back out.

Plywood is strong going perpendicular to the grain with a screw, take a scrap and run a screw into it. Then do the same between the layers and you'll see it splits quite easily and creates a void.

Well the list is getting a bit smaller. Motor mounts done, bilge done. Just need to paint but will do that once I have the pieces glasses in for battery trays, hydraulic pump, etc. This weekend I hope to bang out the rear seating and doghouse support. Then I can glass that and install in one piece and paint the back inside. Going at a slower pace but still going 👍🏼
