Bought a 42" plasma about 2 years ago off their website. It just died.....
Did a little searching on the web to find a LOT, did I say LOT of unhappy customer's who purchased tv's from dell and they are failing left and right.
Can't get them fixed through dell, or anywhere else. Local tv repair shops can't get the replacement parts to fix them.

Thank goodness I'm electronic literate. I might be able to fix it on a component level. If not, I got me a brand new expensive boat anchor, $3000 worth.

Knock on wood Spinner.
Maybe they shouldn't have ventured out of the computer world.

Your computer is 4 years old? Time for an upgrade.....
Wanna call dell?

Sorry JB, I'm just pissed I paid $3000 for a not so new(26 month) boat anchor!:D

I don't know if it makes you feel any better, but I have a 37" Vizio paperweight. It doesn't seem to matter too much what you buy, there is always that chance that it'll die. Okay, that didn't make me feel better either. I'm sorry for your loss!

For the new TV, we bought at a brick and mortar shop and got a 5 year in-home warranty. Sure, we paid a little more, but I don't have to worry about it! Good luck with your repair!

Oh yeah, I'm typing this on a sweet 700 Mhz Dell Inspiron that's 7 or 8 years old. It's old and not exactly amazing, but it's still kickin!

Again, good luck!

Thanks 2broke4this.....for the settling word's...
KEEP THAT OLD PUTER!!!! That's quality built..:D
dell was great, 5 years back or so, but the corporate giant was money hungry and cut costs across the board. Their products were out-sorsed to the cheapest manufacturer. And you can't get replacement parts.
Not to mention.....you have got to talk to india for service!!!!

Re: DELL Products

Glad I could help! It's so frustrating when electronics (or anything else) die, especially when it's long before you expect them to. On the other hand, the new Samsung looks sooo much nicer than the old Vizio. :)

I figure I'll hang on to this old laptop for quite a while. Oddly enough (for this post), the screen is pretty amazing (even with the few lines going up and down on it).

It seems like the build quality for most of the big electronics (not just computers, but everything) companies has gone downhill in an effort to make things "more affordable". That, and it seems that repairing them usually ends up costing more than the replacement cost. Oh well, I'm done ranting!

If it makes you feel any better, Dell doesn't manufacture the TV. They have them made for them. You may think you are going to get better quality switching to another brand but you may be just switching to the same brand that makes them for Dell.

Re: DELL Products

You can't blame dell for that as they are just a reseller for most of the electronics they carry.

I own a Polaroid 42" LCD that i bought from good ol' Wal-Mart.

I bought the 40" Polaroid from WallyWorld. I have no complaints.

As far as Dell's go, my 7 year old desktop computer has given me no trouble.

It is frustrating these days to open something up and troubleshoot it then not be able to get the parts to repair it.
I have found a source for SMD components in Florida that sells on ebay if that will help you any.PM me if you need any more info.Ron G

My friend's dad had a Heathkit TV he build himself from a kit. It was cutting edge for the time and even had a remote (before anything had one). It worked for like 25 years. Every time it would go haywire he'd say "Well I'll take one more crack at it" and he'd get behind it and fiddle with something and it would work for a few more months.

What part/s can't you get? have you opened it up and see what exactly died. It could be very simple to fix.

Re: DELL Products

Maybe my experience is different because I talk to their business support and not home support, but I have seen marked improvement in their service since a few years ago. I get an english speaking person. I haven't had problems obtaining parts, even for out of warranty items.

Yes Bruce I know...
Rule of thumb I just learned is not to buy directly from so called maker.
Buy from a third party like walmart, costco, best buy and such. That way you can go to them with your complaints as to why their selling junk.
That would make them put the pressure on the so called manufacturer.

What's really scary is the wife has been in Arizona the past 10 days and I haven't told her yet. Her flight lands at 3pm today, so by 4, she'll know.
Watch your local news:eek:

I beg to differ. Once you've slapped your name/logo on it your suppose to stand behind that product.

There is no support what so ever for the tv's they slapped their logo on...
They won't even tell you who made it so you could at least try and get replacement parts. All they told me was that I could call dimension one in Ohio
(for out-of-warranty service) and they would send me packaging material to send to Ohio (all pre-paid of course). Then they would tell me what was wrong with it (for another $135). Then they would give me the option of....IF the repairs were to much, they would happily send me a refurbished one for only $1099.

WOW that's some support:cool:

I'll be doing that today after the wifey gets home.;)
Hope it is a relatively simple fix.
I do now know who made they're plasma's.
It's a company named Coretronic, made with Samsung parts.:D

Thanks Ron,
Hopefully I won't have to go down to the component level.
But if I have to, I'm competent enough to do it.
Hopefully, it's just the power supply board and has a Samsung part # on it.;)
