Work has been taking up most of my time but I finally found some time to get goin o the boat again.
Bought and installed the carpet. We fit and cut it then glued down just one side. The next day we flipped the carpet over the glued side then put glue on the deck and other side. Then we rolled the carpet on to it. Came out really well: we only have two major seem, but it is one whole piece. A gallon of the carpet glue just barely made it.
We also started the painting on the cap. We got one quart of signal red Duralux topside fort the cap. Do you guys thing that will be enough for two coats? There will be two large white stripes on the bow also.
We started in the splash well because if we messed up we would prefer it to be there. We decided to only paint the splashwell today, then only paint it again on Thursday to see how our current technique will result in, then adjust to fix any mistakes then do the rest.
Glad to see you had sometime on it, I was wondering what happened to you! Red is usually pretty transparent, but it looks like you are getting pretty good coverage. Hopefully it will enough! 3M super 90 spray glue also works great for carpet, its not as messy as carpet glue. Keep up the nice work!
Thanks you guys. We have STAR testing this week which we dont take since we are seniors and we only have less than two hours of school tomorrow so i think we may take the day off to get some REAL work done on this thing.
PSI- We had to cut a seem on each side because the shape of the hull would have created a large bulge in the carpet so we had to basically cut out a triangle out on each side so it would conform to the shape of the hull.
Green- Are you thinking about doing a boat too?
We go the second coat on the splashwell(It looks so great!) and the first coat on everywhere else. We got really great coverage so much so that we may have enough for a third coat. We are planning on doing the second coat tomorrow and maybe start to prep the hull.
Question: Can we use acetone to clean the cap after we sand it before the second coat, or just use a damp cloth?
Woah man nice Red!
And yeah i got a boat that seems like its in rough shape, i'm looking up on threads on how to do stuff before i really start. i have really no experience with this stuff but i am looking forward to starting the boat.
Ya, I was basically the same way when I started. I'm pretty handy but had no direct experience with boats, just jet skis. Have you started a restoration thread yet?
I can't stand it! I keep going outside to look at. I can't believe it's all finally coming together! It's just so weird that it's coming out just how I had it in my head!
Nice work, and yeah stay away from the acetone, or you won't have paint, lol....it will all be on your rag! You might call the paint manufacturer, I wiped mine down with acrylic enamel reducer, but it was an automotive paint.....when in doubt call the manufacturer! Funny how you just spend time looking at it when you get paint on it huh?

This is straight from Duralux's site.
I saw your Post on my thread about the Lonestar. I'll PASS. My next project will be a WOOD Runabout Glen-L Design. I have been working on my boat quite a bit. Just not posting. I need to "Catch-Up" and will do so pretty soon. You are doing a GREAT job. Really like the RED!!!! Are you Roll and Tipping or Roll and Rolling???
Thanks for the info on the acetone, I came really close to making a BIG mistake, haha. Thanks for the info Wood and I cant wait for you to update your thread. Do you already have the next boat? And we are roll and rolling.
I was at school until 8:30 tonight finishing a model for an Architecture competition in San Fransisco so no second coat today. And I have work and Prom this weekend so I'm thinking the second coat will happen Monday.
I don't HAVE it, but I DO have the PLANS and have been studying them for over a year. It will be a complete Ground Up build of a little 12 foot wooden runabout called the SQUIRT. Hopefully will look like this when complete. I have the Motor and most of the wood so now just need to finish My Flamingo and get the shop finished and get started. Can't hardly wait since woodworking IS my passion.
haven't really started a thread, i think i might, and get help along the way with you guys with suggestions and all that, but its going to be interesting, going to learn a lot too while working on the boat.
Wood that would be a sweet boat "Squirt" pretty cool when its done.
