Re: Harley Davidson

I would never tell someone that has worked, toiled , bleed , cried whatever over a bike that I thought it was silly. I have too much respect for the labor, to let my opinion hurt someone.

Thank you!!! Opinions are like a@@holes. Everyone has one and they usaully sink. :p;)

On that note, I wanna see more bike pictures!!! :) :) I'm surprised no one has one of those old Harley 125 "dirt bikes". They looked like they would have been fun to rip around on.
One of my bro's back home had two of them that we farted around in back in teen years. Nothing like a CR or a YZ but for what they were it was a blast. No Pic's

Re: Harley Davidson

I do actually have a Harley in the shed waiting for restoration, it's a 1972 sprint. but here's my turn key rider, guiness book world record fastest production motorcyle in the world 1983, 84, 85, 86. I always wear my helmet.

Ahhhh, V65 Magna. Fastest I EVER went on public roads was on one of those. The speedo read 165 and I was on the ebltway(695) around Baltimore 20 years ago. Man, was that stupid. Lost a good pair of shades when I turned my head

So I guess my Suzuki looks silly too? Interesting.

Haven't seen yours, but if it is a V-twin, probably not. A honda CB750 has in inline, 4 cylinder engine. People used to chop them "back in the day," but they just didn't look right, IMO.

A V65 Magna was/is a fast motorcycle. The only thing about that Guinness record is that it is stated to be "calculated" top speed, not a top speed record that was set in the real world.

I never have owned a Harley but enjoy watching them in the rear view mirror...;)
My neighbor just dropped 20k on a full dresser...i could never afford one but really nice HD..

I'll stick with my little 1800 v-twin,110 Cubic inches, fuel injected and dyno tuned...:) And i could buy 3 of them for what my neighbor has in his..
But,I know it's not a Harley...

Don't know the details of the guiness. I can run sub 12sec quarter miles @110 all day long just as she sits windshield and all, not bad for a 25yr old bike. My friends mostly ride Harleys, they make it their livelyhood, I always tease them about giving up so much cabbage just to have a few more decibles than the next guy, then they proceed to force feed me rice.

Re: Harley Davidson

The one good thing about HD's is their longevity. HD doesn't change the product line that often. You can still go down to a dealer and get parts for a decades old bike. If the dealer doesn't have it, the aftermarket likely does. If you can't find it in the aftermarket, you can find it somewhere at a swapmeet. Japanese makers are the opposite...They change models/motor/design pretty often and getting parts after a bike gets some years on it is sometimes tough. I've gone in looking for older Japanese parts only to find them obsolete.

On thing for certain, you will never see Harley's piled up like the bikes in this junk rice paddy that several acres near me. I walked thru it a while back and was amazed at how many bikes where junked with very low miles. Lots of them under 20k. Oh, I don't think they broke down. I'd just guess most people simply didn't want to ride them that much.:D

Same here....i get all the rice comments too...
They usually stop the teasing after they see mine launch from a red light.
My 200 wide rear hooks up on some pavement...100+ in third gear..:D

I went on a charity ride and me and a guy on a crotch rocket was the only non HD bikes out of at least 200...boy did we get the rude comments!
They wanted us near tha rear of the pack...the nerve!

We stayed back there until we hit the interstate...the sport bike and myself fell over in the passing lane and blew by the mile long line.
I kept up with the sport bike to about 130 then i let off the gas....too fast for me but what fun it was...
The next stop not one of the HD guys said a word. The guy on the sport bike said he topped 150 before letting off the throttle.

The whole day it just had me thinking why do the HD guys get such an attitude?
We were all there to raise money for charity so why worry about who rides what?

That is so very true. If I had bought stock in Harley Davidson just 20 yrs ago I would be a millionaire today.

Being a boating forum I'm thinking the Harley rider responses will be thin, the Harley riders I know are fanatics hard core it's their livelyhood, wives are riders too, there's no room for a boat in the living room too.

Re: Harley Davidson

I've gone back and forth between boats and motorcycles all my life. I've owned four Japanese rockets then made the mistake of dropping by the local Harley dealership just to take a peek at the Sportsters. Walked out of there with a new Road King Classic. As I was leaving the salesman shoved a thick catalog in my saddlebag, and when I got home I saw that it was a catalog of Genuine Harley accessories. Wished I'd never of opened that catalog because it wasn't long before I had invested a couple of thousand in chrome. The Harley was so completely different from anything I'd ridden before, thick, solid, and heavy. I was amazed at how long I could stay in the saddle and how far I could go in a day. There were many 500+ mile days -Truly a machine built for distance travel. I put 26K mikes on it in two years - Almost all in the Arkansas twisties and the mountains of New Mexico and Colorado. Sold the bike when I became a Father at 46. Broke my heart, but I have a child to raise and motorcycles aren't conducive to family travel. If I ever own another motorcycle it'll be another Harley - Maybe just a little Sportster when my boys older.

I currently have 3 HD's in my little welding shop. My boat is right next to my shop. I can only fit 4 of my other boats in my livingroom.

Kayaks:D

I love BOTH my boats and my bikes. I do view my bikes like children though.
Also, while my boat is stored for the winter, I will continue to ride 12 mo.s out of 12 mo.s, I am not in Florida either, I am in the NE.

This is the 1987 softail that I recently inherited from my uncle, (Worst way to get a bike ever!) That picture was taken in my uncle's living room, when we went up to empty out the apartment.

My uncle on his brown chopper. He was drifting around OK working on various oil fields at the time of photo.

Re: Harley Davidson

Many years ago on my 19th Birthday, I picked up a 79 Sporty..
Needed a bit of work but my best bud was a Bike wrench...

Being 19 in Socal with a Harley while a few of my buddy's had KZ's or GPz's..
Was a great time in my life..After an AC/DC concert at the Forum on one winter night, I met a young lady that needed a ride home and since well, I was 19..I told her I'd take her home or my place or anywhere her lil face wanted to go..It was San Diego!! Dammmmmit..lol
Coming home I blew the rings in my rear cylinder..Limped home and my buddy and I decided if we were gonna tear into her, we'd do it right.

Punched her out to 1100cc's, built the tranny, tossed the Japanese MIKUNI carb and went with a big throat...Painted frame...I absolutely loved that Sporty..Took a bit of the "chick bike" stuff from an AA riding group that I rode with on occasion..I always said "Sporty is better than Sushi"..lol

She was an AMF...Whenever somebody had a "bowling ball" statement, I said you don't understand what AMF means..For me it was..

Adios MoFo..!!!!!

Right before my daughter was born..I traded her for a 71 Mustang Mach One..
Thats another long story in itself..
